[Yunosawa Onsen in Shimkappu] Day Trip Onsen and Too Salty Cold Spring Can Be Enjoyed at Mori-no-Shiki

Yunosawa Onsen

Yunosawa Onsen (湯ノ沢温泉) is a hot spring place in Shimukappu village located between Sapporo city and Obihiro city. Only Mori-no-Shiki (森の四季) is built near Furano National Route (National Route 237) at aroud 400 m above sea level in a mountain. The distance is around 10 km far away from the center of the Shimukappu, and restraunts, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built. Speaking of the Shimukappu, Hoshino Resort Tomamu is famous, and a ski resort, a sea of clouds and Ice Village are popular. In the Shimukappu, various activities are served, and a rafting trip, rock-climbing and hiking can be enjoyed from summer to autumn, and ski, snowboard and snowshoes can be enjoyed in a winter. By the way, Lake Kanayama (金山湖) is relatively near here.

Tomamu Unkai Terrace

Hoshino Resort Unkai Terrace (星野リゾート 雲海テラス) is a popular sightseeing spot in Tomamu, Shimukappu village located in the northwestern direction of Obihiro city and is famous as a resort that tourists can enjoy a golf in a summer, a ski and a snowboarding in a winter. In 2005, they started the unkai terrace that utilized a ski-lift in a summer, it became a popular tourist attraction in an instant. Lake Kanayama

Lake Kanayama (かなやま湖) is a man-made lake in Minamifurano town located in the southern direction of Furano city. Kanayama Dam was built in 1967, and the lake was born. It stretches east-west along Hokkaido Road 465, and the watere surface area is 9.2 km2, and the lake is the Japan's 8th largest dam lake. The kanayama Dam is the only concrete hollow gravity dam with about 57 m in height in Hokkaido, and was chosen as "100 Best Dam Lake in Japan", too. Kanayamako Lookout (かなやま湖展望台) and Kanayanamako Forest Park (かなやま湖森林公園) are around the lake, and 740,000 toursits visit here. Visitors can take a day trip bath at the Mori-no-Shiki.


Mori-no-Shiki is a small-sized onsen inn run by Sportpia corp. at present, and has opened a business since 1977. A building was renewd in 2012, and the appearance and the interior decoration is a stylish building like a mountain hut. Restraunt "Mori-no-Shiki" is at the building, too, and visitors for day trip bath can use the restraunt. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 550. A staying is possible, too.

There are 1 indoor bath, 1 cold bath and 1 sauna at a public bathroom. The bathroom with a conbination of wooden board and white walls is small-size that about 10 people come in. But the sunny bathroom is feeling good.

The tiled indoor bath is the size that about 4 people can take a bath, and uses heated cold spring. The cold bath is the size that 1 person can take a bath, and uses natural cold springs. The raw cold springs flow from a faucet. Water temperature is 8 C, and it is very cold.

The hot springs are sodium and calcium chloride cold spring, and are clear and light yellow and have salty taste and no smell, and seem to be drinkable. It seems to have an effect for Chronic digestive diseases and Chronic constipation. But it was very salty, and I could not drink it from the faucet much. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 9.627 g/kg, and are rich. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathroom. A restroom and a free hair dryer are installed at a dressing room.
