[Takinoue Park in Yubari] Chidorigataki Falls and Ryusenkyo Gorge Go Well with Beautiful Fall Foliage
Takinoue Park (滝の上公園) is a park in Yubari city located in the southeastern direction of Sapporo city. Speaking of the Takinoue Park, Shibazakura Takinoue Park in Takinoue town is famous for moss pink, but this park is well-known as a beauty spot to see the fall foliage. The best time to see the fall foliage is from early October to mid October. In addition, Momiji Festival (紅葉まつり * Fall Foliage Festival) is held on Saturday and Sunday in mid October. There are Takinoue Power Plant (滝の上発電所), parking lots, a restroom and a shop around an entrance of the park. Admission free. The parking lots are free of charge.
The Takinoue Power Plant is a hydroelectric power generation built in 1925. Red bricks have a historical atmosphere. The power plant comes online only from March to May. Unfortunately, it can not be seen up freely. But it is open for the general public when the Momiji Festival is held on Saturday and Sunday in mid October. By the way, Melon Terrace (めろんのテラス) that serves buffet of Yubari Melon and steak is nearby the park, and a lot of people come.
Fall Foliage of Hokkaido
It is said that the Fall Foliage of the Hokkaido turns red at the earliest in Japan. The best time to see the fall foliage comes in Daisetsu-zan at high altitude, and it comes gradually in low areas. It comes in Mt. Asahidake (旭岳) and in Mt. Kurodake (黒岳) in mid September, and autumn leaves fall in early November. As for the highlight of the Fall Foliage of the Hokkaido, tourists are bowled over by vast nature with the fall foliage, or are bowled over by small space that goes well with the fall foliage. Except famous beauty spots for the fall foliage, there are less famous beauty spots for the fall foliage such usual mountains and rivers or gorges here and there. Read More
Fall Foliage of Takinoue Park
As for the fall foliage of the Takinoue Park, a valley eroded by Yubari River (夕張川) goes well with the fall foliage, especially, Chidorigataki Falls (千鳥ヶ滝) and Ryusenkyo Gorge (竜仙峡) are famous. The Chidorigataki Falls has another name, Yubari Falls (夕張滝), too. Ainu people used to live around here. They named around the Chidorigataki Falls as Kamuikotan (カムイコタン) that means “The land that gods live in” because the harsh landscape ward off the poeple. Speaking of the Kamuikotan, its name in Asahikawa is famous, and I have never known the Kamuikotan in Yubari. By the way, the width of the river is around 100 m when snow melts. The park is large, so it takes about 60 minutes to go round on foot.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
