It is the origin of the Taisetsu Kogen Onsen that a worker of formerly Kokusaku Pulp corp (Nippon Paper corp) found a hot spring source, and built a Kogen Hut (高原ヒュッテ) in 1959. After that, it was shutted down, and Taisetsu Kogen Hotel (大雪高原ホテル) opened a business in 1963, and its name was renamed "Taisetsu-Kogen-so", and up to now. By the way, visitors must drive for about 10 km on a gravel road named "Town Road Daisetsu Kogen Onsen Line" with one traffic lane to arrive at the Taisetsu-Kogen-so. Please be careful about brown bears because here is a nest of brown bears. A hunter told me that the visitors seem to be careful about quite a few accidents to deer suddenly rushing out in front of cars, too. In addition, around here is not out of signal area.

There are 1 open-air bath and 1 indoor bath at a public bathroom. The bathrooms for men or women are replaced every day. The bathroom with wood boards and a high ceiling is slightly dark but cozy. The indoor bath is the size that about 8 people can take a bath, and uses 100% natural free flowing hot springs. The hot springs poured into the bath from a hot spring gushing out point called (クマゴロー). * The kuma means Bear in English, and the goro is common name, and the hot springs overflowed successively from the bath. Free flowing fresh hot springs are luxurious. I felt very interesting that white flowers of sulphur dance in the hot springs.

The open-air bath is the size that about 5 people can take a bath, and uses 100% natural free flowing hot springs. Water temperature is more slightly cold than the indoor bath, and it is suitable for taking a long bath. Bathers can enjoy a good sense of openness. The open-air bath is surrounded by blindfold fences, but there is not a roof, the visiotrs will feel like close to a sky. Because I took a bath while looking at mountains of the Daisetsuzan, it was very comfortable. I think that starry sky is beautiful in the evening.

The hot springs are simple acidic spring, and are milky white and have acidulous and sulfur smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.356 g/kg. Because the hot springs seemed to be drinkable, the taste was not bad when I drank the hot springs that gushed out from the Kumagoro. The drinking hot springs are effective for Chronic digestive diseases. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathroom. A free hair dryer is installed at a dressing room. There is not a restroom at the dressing room. You should get a wash beforehand at the restroom along a corridor.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
