Popura Farm (ポプラファーム) is a Santa-no-Hige (サンタのヒゲ * Santa Claus's Beard) specialty store in Naka-furano town located in the southern direction of Asahikawa city. Furano Kaihatsu corp. (有限会社フラノ開発) runs it, and Ms. Shigeko Nagao (長尾 茂子) is a company president. The head office is in the Naka-furano, and a branch opens a business in Otaru. I guess that you may not know what the Santa-no-Hige is. It is a type of sweets put soft serve ice cream on a flesh of melon. Since smooth waved curves of the appearance looks like the Santa Claus's Beard, so I suppose that its looks is the origin of the name. But it becomes noted sweets of Furano district now.
My visited place is the head office facing National Route 237, and it is next to SPA and HOTELRESORT FURANO LA TERRE (ふらのラテール), and is near Farm Tomita and Nishinaka Station. A large parking lot is provided, and a monument of the Santa-no-Hige is built in front of the store. The store is large, and all seats are table seats, so I guess that even family customers enjoy meals.
Farm Tomita (ファーム富田) is a popular tourist flower garden in Nakafurano town located in the southeastern direction of Asahikawa city, and is a representative lavender farm of Furano that is famous for the lavender. Except the lavender, a lot of colorful flowers are planted, so 1 million tourists visit here every year. * A population of the Nakafurano is around 5000. This farm is open from late April to early November. Thier fields are roughly divived into 2 places, the Farm Tomita and Lavender East, and each places are at a distance. Admission free. The parking lot is free of charge. Temporary Lavender-batake Station (ラベンダー畑駅) is open from June to late October. Flower Fields No Trespassing ! Read More

I visited here to eat such a famous dessert around 10:00 on a weekday. I entered the store, and some types of the Santa-no-Hige were served. A milk flavored soft serve ice cream seemed to be most popular, but I wanted to eat a melon flavored soft serve ice cream, so I ordered a santa-de-mix (サンタデミックス) mixed the melon flavor with the milk flavor. The price was JPY 1200.
The diameter of a half-melon was around 10 cm. The swirl soft serve ice cream of around 15 cm height was put on a flesh of the half-melon. Typical foods of Hokkaido were combined into the dessert, and it had quite a lot of impact. Because the bottom of the half-melon was round, it was easy to fall down, so I ate the Santa-no-Hige while supporting with my hand.
I had a bite immediately, and that was very sweet. It was tasty! Besides, it melted steadily because the soft serve ice cream was fresh. I ate greedily it, and at last reached to the flesh of the half-melon. I enjoyed eating the melon produced in Furano. Thanks for the tasty soft serve!
