Numa-no-Ie (沼の家) is a long-established Japanese confectionary store between Lake Onuma and JR Onuma Koen Station in Nanae town located in the northern direction of Hakodate city, and has been established since 1905. Onuma Sweet Dumplings (大沼だんご) made by Mr. Kamekichi Horiguchi (堀口亀吉), the founder, is famous. A box of the Onuma Sweet Dumplings represents the Lake Onuma and Lake Konuma, the sweet dumplings without skewers represent 127 small islands floating on the lakes. They serve 2 types of the Onuma Sweet Dumplings, sweet red bean paste (餡) and sweet sesame paste (胡麻), and 2 sizes, a large size (大) and a small size (小). Lake Onuma with Fall Foliage
Lake Onuma (大沼) is the largest lake in Onuma Quasi National Park, and is well-known as a beauty spot to see fall foliage in Hokkaido, too. A combination of Mt. Komagadake (駒ヶ岳) and small islands with fall foliage floated on the surface of the Lake Onuma is very good. 4 trails, Oshima Trail (大島の路), Forest Trail (森の小径), Island Hopping Trail (島巡りの路) and Sunset Trail (夕日の道), are provided around Park Plaza (公園広場), and I have walked the Oshima Trail and the Island Hopping Trail on foot. By the way, bicycles are prohibited on the trails. The best time to see is from late October to early November. Admission free. A parking lot is chraged. Read More

Onuma Sweet Dumplings
I visited here around 11:00 on a weekday in mid October, just beautiful fall foliage season. The store was crowded with about 20 customers when I entered the store. It was very popular, after all. People that happened to be there said "Customers sometimes form a line at the entrance, and the Onuma Sweet Dumplings sometimes are sold out, too". The Numa-no-Ie sold various Japanese confectionaries, and the Onuma Sweet Dumplings were most popular, after all. Most of customers bought the Onuma Sweet Dumplings in succession. I bought the small size of both the Onuma Sweet Dumplings, too. The small size was JPY 390 per one. The large size was JPY 650 per one.
Places for custmers to enjoy foods and drinks are provided inside and outside. I sat at a table near the entrance. A lot of the customers visited the store while sitting at the table. The box that was separated into a large part as the Lake onuma and a small part as the Lake Konuma appeared after taking off a package. The larger part had rice dumplings with the sweet red bean paste or the sweet sesame paste, and the smaller part had rice dumplings with sweet soy paste. To eat scallion-shaped rice dumplings with a thick toothpick.
The rice dumplings were soft, and the sweet red bean paste, the sweet sesame paste and the sweet soy paste were not too sweet, and were good taste. Its flavor expiration date was only a day. I supposed that the rice dumplings got hard, and its situtation was not most tasty if a day passed. I felt that a little awkward serving the most tasty Onuma Sweet Dumplings. By the way, the small size was for one person, and my stomach got bigger by 2 small sizes of the Onuma Sweet Dumplings. Thanks for the tasty sweet dumplings!

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
