[Cote Dor in Sapporo] Big Pudding and Cream Puff
European Style Sweets Cote Dor (欧風菓子コートドール) is a long-established western confectionery shop based in Sapporo city, and has been opened since 1980, and is also a dessert section of French Restaurant "Cote Dor" that got one star in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition and MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2017 Special Edition. They are a group businesse of Wakasaimo-honpo (わかさや本舗) that is famous for Wakasaimo (わかさいも). The head office is Toyohira ward, Sapporo, and a bracnh opens a business in Chuo ward. The western confectionery shop is specialized in a western confectionery, and sell cakes, baked confectioneries, puddings and so on.
My visited place is the head office near Tsukisamu Park and Toyohira Ward Office. The tiled building has been renewed since 2009, and a confectionery shop is on the 1st floor. The interior decoration is good, and it is comfortable. I guess that a place for custmers to enjoy foods and drinks is not provided, but maybe they have it.
Sapporo (札幌) that about 1,960,000 people live is the largest city in Hokkaido. Although there are various theories, its origin of the name is "Dry Big River (乾いた大きな川)" in Ainu language. A population of the Sapporo is the 4th largest city after Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya in japan, and the population accounts for 36 % of Hokkaido's population! So the Sapporo has been flourished as the center of the Hokkaido. The area of the Sapporo is 1,121.26 km2, and is about as big as Hong Kong, and is the 7th largest city in the Hokkaido. The Sapporo is also famous as a tourist city, and about 15 million people come. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 25 degrees in a summer, but it is easy to live without moisture. I always feel a little cool. It is cold that temperature falls to nearly -10 degrees in a winter, and amount of snowfall sometimes has more than 1 m. Article is here
Grand Pudding and Cream Puff
I visited here around 11:00 on a weekday. There was no cusromer. After asking a waitress about store's recommendation in front of a showcase, she replied me "Petit Gateau". I ordered Grand Pudding (グラン・プリン) and Cream Puff (シュークリーム) to go in those. The prices were JPY 540 and JPY 194.
The Grand Pudding with 2 layers, a pudding layer and a fresh cream layer, was considerably big at a glass, and was topped with strawberries, oranges and small sponge cakes. That looked not a pudding but a drink, and had a runny texture. It was tasty!
The Cream Puff had 2 layers, a custard cream layer and a fresh cream layer. I enjoy eating because it was not too sweet. Thanks for the tasty sweets!
