[Kameya in Yakumo] Sushi Supreme Combo with Seafood Caught in Yakumo
Kameya Sushi (亀や寿司) is a long-established sushi restaurant founded in 1968 in Yakumo town located in the northwestern direction of Hakodate city, and is near Yakumo Station, and is famous for getting the Bib Gourmand in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. The sushi restaurant on the 1st floor of a 3 story building is not large, and has an atmosphere of a typical sushi restaurant. Counter seats, table seats and a small separate Japanese style room are provided, so I guess that even family customers enjoy meals.
Sushi of Hokkaido
Sushi is a rice dish using various types of ingredients such as raw seafood, and Hand-rolled Sushi (握り寿司) is most famous, and others are Rolled Sushi (巻きずし), Sushi Pocket (いなり寿司 * Inarizushi), Scattered Sushi (バラ寿司・ちらし寿司), Pressed Sushi (押し寿司), Izushi Fermented Sushi (飯寿し) and so on. In Japan, Fermented Sushi (なれずし) has been eaten since Nara Period, and old Japanese made sushi as a fermented food. In Edo Period, the Hand-rolled Sushi was born, and was popular with Edo people in Edo Castle Town. It was not a dish but a snack in those days. Since Meiji peropd, sushi using sashimi has become widespread in the Japan, and a bite-sized vinegared rice has become common. So the sushi refers to the Hand-rolled Sushi in a large number of cases. Sushi Supreme Combo
I visited here around 11:30, just opening time, on a weekday. The Kameya did not provide a parking lot, so I parked my car at the parking lot of the Yakumo Station. I was the first customer on that day. I ordered a Sushi Supreme Combo (特上寿司). The price was JPY 2100. A cup of tea was blended green tea with gyokuro (玉露), and was tasty.
About 10 minutes later, sushi on a plate and a bowl of miso soup were served. Sushi items were flounder, tunnya tuna, sweet shrimp, surf clam, snow crab, flying fish roe, sea urchin and dried gourd shavings sushi rolls. Some sushi items used seafood caught in the Gulf of Uchiura (内浦湾). The appearance looked tasty. I ate those immediately. The sushi items were large, too, and were really tasty! I chatted with an sushi chef while eating the sushi, and I learned about the Yakumo from him. Thank you!
Furthermore, I additional ordered scallop and flathead flounder caught in the Yakumo. The flathead flounder caught in the Yakumo was large, and had the sweetness, and was more tasty in particular. I became full. Thanks for the tasty sushi!
