[Ikameshi Abe Shoten in Mori] Squid Stuffed with Rice Won Championship 44 Times in "Ancestor Celebrity Station Lunch and National Gourmet Fair"

Abe Shoten

Ikameshi Abe Shoten (株式会社 いかめし阿部商店) corp. is a squid stuffed with rice (イカ飯 * Ikameshi) manufacturer founded in 1903 in Mori town located in the northwestern part of Hakodate city, and started as a station lunch production sales company. Means of transportation was only a train in those days. Since Mori Station has been located along a railroad main line between Honshu and Sapporo, I guess that a lot of passengers got on trains. The squid stuffed with the rice was released in 1940, and it has become a popular lunch in an instant.

It is sold only at Shibata Shoten (柴田商店) at a station square. Except it, vacuum‐seal Squid Stuffed with Rice is sold in various places. I visited the Shibata Shoten to eat the squid stuffed with rice at best by only a day this time. Both the appearance of the store and the interior decoration had an atmosphere of the Showa period. I bought the squid stuffed with rice at once. The price was JPY 650. The store did not have a place for customers to enjoy foods and drinks.

Because I had a snowstorm, I ate it at Mori Station. 2 squids were at a lunch box. I felt nostalgic about a taste of salty sweet squid and a texture of glutinous rice. It was good point that rice was not too sticky, too. The boiled squid had a just tough, and I enjoyed it. Thanks for the tasty meal!
