[Okushiba Shoten Head Office in Saporo] Tasty Soup Curry with Prawn Soup Broth

Okushiba Shouten is a popular soup curry restaurant founded in 2004 in Sapporo city, and is well-known for soup curry using prawn broth. NEXT LEVEL corp runs it, and Mr. Yosuke Okushiba (奥芝 洋介) is a company president. Branch restaurants open a business in the Sapporo, Chitose, Asahikawa and Memanbetsu Airport, and their friends also open a business with using the same business name. I visited Okushiba Shouten Head Oiffce. Unfortunately, The Sapporo Head Office has been closed down since August 2016. The following is an article before closing down.

This restaurant is a rebuilt ordinary private house in Hokkaido, so I felt like I visited my friend's private house. Counter seats and table seats are provided, and there are a lot of tables, so I guess that family customers enjoy their meals. Freehand drawing Okushiba Newspapers (奥芝新聞) and free-use notebooks (自由帳) are provided on each tables, so customers can read those freely. Those are one of restraunt's distinctive feature. A line may be expected at lunchtime.

A way of ordering is as follows. Customers should choose a type of soup from chiken soup (tomato flavor) or prawn soup (extra cost JPY 100), and should choose main ingredients from about 10 types of main ingredients, and should choose toppings (You do not have to choose), and choose hotness from 12 types of hotness, and should choose a quantity of rice.

A population of the Sapporo is the 4th largest city after Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya in japan, and the population accounts for 36 % of Hokkaido's population! So the Sapporo has been flourished as the center of the Hokkaido. The area of the Sapporo is 1,121.26 km2, and is about as big as Hong Kong, and is the 7th largest city in the Hokkaido. The Sapporo is also famous as a tourist city, and about 15 million people come. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 25 degrees in a summer, but it is easy to live without moisture. I always feel a little cool. It is cold that temperature falls to nearly -10 degrees in a winter, and amount of snowfall sometimes has more than 1 m. Article is here

Soup Curry

Soup curry (スープカレー) is a dish to eat rice into soup using various spices with vegetables and meats. Only curry and rice was once a curry dish in Japan, but the soup curry has become popular for these 20 years. Ajanta (アジャンタ) and Magic Spice (マジックスパイス) in Sapporo sparked the soup curry boom, and it is said that the origin of the soup curry is medicinal cooking curry (薬膳カリィ) cooked by Mr. Muneo Tatsujiri (辰尻 宗男), ex-restraunt owner of the Ajanta, and a new genre of a curry dish has been established. After that, Mr. Taizan Shimomura (下村 泰山), a restraunt owner of the Magic Spice, named the curry dish as the soup curry, and it has widely spread. Article is here

I ate Soup Curry with Seasonal Vegetables (特選旬野菜) and Soup Curry with Special Selective Vegetables and Tender Chicken (わらかチキンと特選旬野菜).

Soup Curry with Seasonal Vegetables

I visited here at 11:00, just opening hour, on a weekday, so it was easy to take a seat. I ordered the Soup Curry with Seasonal Vegetables, prawn soup, Yayoi (弥生 * the 3rd hotness), a standard serving of rice and a glsss of Lassie drink. The price was JPY 1680 in total. A waitress said "It may take some time because each dishes are cooked". About 20 minutes later, the beautiful Soup Curry with Seasonal Vegetables was served. Since the prawn soup was famous, I chose it. My choice was not wrong! The umami of prawns were very tasty. Seasoning and the hotness were good for me, too. When I was satisfied with it, and left the restaurant, 5 groups of visitors lined up before noon. It was the popular restaurant, after all.

I visited here on a weekday before opening hour. 5 groups of visitors had already lined up. A business hour came, and I sat a table seat, and read a menu. I ordered Soup Curry with Special Selective Vegetables and Tender Chicken, the prawn soup, Yayoi (the 3rd hotness) and a standard serving of rice. The price was JPY 1280. This was tasty, too!
