[Kaizoku in Yoichi] Black Squid Ink Soup Curry

Kaizoku (海ぞく) is a popular soup curry restraunt founded in about 2013 in Kurokawa-cho, Yoichi town located in the root of Shiretoko Penninsula, and is near Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery (ニッカウヰスキー余市蒸溜所), Yoichi Space Museum "Space Dome" (余市宇宙記念館スペース童夢) and Roadside Station Space Apple Yoichi (道の駅スペース・アップルよいち). The Kaizoku means "A pirate" in English. The Kurokawa-cho is an entertainment district of the Yoichi town, and a building is built around bars and Japanese‐style baran izakaya (居酒屋). Mr. Satoru Tanaka (田中 悟) is a restraunt owner. He is a younger brother of the restraunt owner of Coffee House (こうひいはうす), a famous soup curry restraunt in Sapporo. Come to think of it, I guess that Kaizoku's non sticky soup resembles Coffee House's soup.
The restraunt has an atmosphere such as a Japanese‐style baran izakayam, and has some counter seats and a samll raised seating area, and it is not so large. But it is interested that there are a lot of curios here and there. I visited here around 13:30 on a weekday. There was not a customer at the restraunt, but a local person came to eat a local style soup curry right away after that, and this restraunt is seemed to be loved by local people.
Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery
Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery (ニッカウヰスキー余市蒸溜所) is a whisky distillery in Yoichi town located in the western part of Otaru city. Nikka Whisky is a subsidiary of ASAHI BREWERIES, and has been operated by Mr. 竹鶴政孝 (Masataka Taketsuru) since 1934. Famous Japanese television drama series "Massan (マッサン)" in 2014 was modeled after Masataka Taketsuru, and this distiller was a shooting place for that drama. Mr. Testuji Tamayama (玉山鉄二) that acts Masaharu Kameyama (亀山政春) and Ms. Charlotte Kate Fox that acts Ellie Kameyama (亀山エリー) put up a good show, and this place become one of most popular tourist attraction in Hokkaido. About 1 million tourists visit here. The distillery is operating distillery now, but even ordinary visitors can come to tour the distillery. Guided distillery tours are conducted for free in Japanese. Open hours are from 09:00 to 17:00. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge. Article is here
Shakotan Peninsula (積丹半島) is a peninsula located in the northwestern part of Otaru city, and has been designated as Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Kaigan Quasi-National Park (ニセコ積丹小樽海岸国定公園) because of a precious complicated coastline with steep cliffs. The sea of the Shakotan is very beautiful, and looks clear blue, so everybody call Shakotan Blue (シャコタンブルー). A traffic used to be inconvenient in the old days, and tourists rarely visited here. People are easy to access the Shakotan Peninsula as well as Shiretoko Peninsula (知床半島) at present, but it is called an unexplored region because it would not develop very much. Article is here
Soup curry (スープカレー) is a dish to eat rice into soup using various spices with vegetables and meats. Only curry and rice was once a curry dish in Japan, but the soup curry has become popular for these 20 years. Ajanta (アジャンタ) and Magic Spice (マジックスパイス) in Sapporo sparked the soup curry boom, and it is said that the origin of the soup curry is medicinal cooking curry (薬膳カリィ) cooked by Mr. Muneo Tatsujiri (辰尻 宗男), ex-restraunt owner of the Ajanta, and a new genre of a curry dish has been established. After that, Mr. Taizan Shimomura (下村 泰山), a restraunt owner of the Magic Spice, named the curry dish as the soup curry, and it has widely spread. Article is here
I sat at a counter seat, and ordered a Squid Ink Soup Curry Combo (イカスミスープカレー) with medium hotness. The price was JPY 1000. By the way, customers can choose a type of the hottness from 3 types of the hottness, regular hot, medium hot and very hot. The Squid Ink Soup Curry Combo had a dish of the Squid Ink Soup Curry, a dish of turmeric rice, a dish of salad and a cup of lassie. It is a quite reasonable price. Except the soup curry, they also serve demi-glace stewed hamburger steak and spaghetti, so I suppose that local people are easy to come.
About 15 minutes later, the Squid Ink Soup Curry Combo was served. Soup was black. I ate a sip of the soup immediately. It tasted salty peculiar to the squid ink, and was tasty! Ingredients were vegetables and seafood, and were tasty, too! The black soup curry will make a topic to talk about, so please try it.
The salad and lassie were tasty, too. The salad in particular used fresh vegetables, and had crunchy texture of vegetables, too. Soy sauce-based salad dressing was exquisite taste, too.
