[Ski Jumping] One of Most Famous Winter Sports in Hokkaido
Ski Jumping is one of nordic skiing using skiis without fixing the heel, and was born in Telemark, Norway in 1808. Ski jumpers compete with a flying distance and a beauty flying posture. Winter Olympic Game and World Cup are also held, the Ski Jumping is one of the most famous winter sports.
In Hokkaido, 11 ski jumping hills are built in Sapporo, Shiribeshi region and Kamikawa region, and the ski jumpers have a game and train themselves. The size of the ski jumping hills are divided into 5 types, Small Hill (20-49 m), Medium Hill (50-84 m), Normal Hill (85-109 m), Large Hill (110-184 m) and Ski Flying Hill (over 185 m), depending on the distance from take-off zone to K-point. The Hokkaido has the Small Hill, the Medium Hill, the Normal Hill and the Large Hill, and the Winter Olympic Game and the World Cup are held at the Normal Hill and the Large Hill.
As for the ski jumping, The ski jumpers ski down a slant of about 35 degrees at speed of 80-100 km per an hour, and jump far more than other ski jumpers, and land in a telemark pose finally. 5 umpires judge their flying pose, and give a score. It adds up the score of their flying distance and the score of the landing and the posture, and they compete for the victory.

Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium
Mt. Okura (大倉山) is a small mountain with 307 m elevation in Chuo ward, Sapporo city, and is relatively near Maruyama Park (円山公園). It is well-known for Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium (大倉山ジャンプ競技場) built at the slope of the mountain, and has a viewing point at the top of the ski jump stand. Very good views from Okurayama Observation Deck (大倉山展望台) are very popular, and the Okurayama Observation Deck was ranked 5th in Tripadvisor "20 Best View Spots 2016 in Japan (行ってよかった！日本の展望スポット 2016)". Overseas tourists gave high praise, and I was surprised that the rank was higher than Tokyo Tower (東京タワー) and Tokyo Sky Tree (東京スカイツリー). In addition, it is famous as a good place to see a night view, but it can be seen within short business hour in the evening. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge. Read More
By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
