Lake Kuttara

Lake Kuttara (倶多楽湖) is a circular caldera lake in Shiraoi town. The circumference of the lake is about 8 km. A road leads to the lake only from Noboribetsu, and it is nearby Noboribetsu Onsen (登別温泉). The transparency of the lake is very high because there is not a river at all. After Lake Mashu (摩周湖), the lake water has the second transparency in Japan. Ministry of the Environment reported 2001 Measurement Results of Water Quality in Public Waters (2001年度公共用水域水質測定結果), and the Lake Kuttara won first place in lake and pond section. Because the development is limited, a primeval forest of Hokkaido is still abound relatively. Rest Station "Route350 Lake Cabin" is built on the shore. It is famous for fishing a kokanee. Itasoba Buckwheat Noodles of Kyoan

Soba-no-Sato Kyoan (そばの里京庵) is a popular buckwheat noodles restaurant in Kaminoboribetsu-cho, Noboribetsu city. There is a solitary house near Shinnoboribetsu Onsen (新登別温泉). There are few buildings around the house, you will be surprised at the buckwheat noodles restaurant in such a place. The interior decoration has an atmosphere such as our home. I took off my shoes and entered here as if I visited my friend's house. By the way, visitors with children who are lower than a primary schoolchild may not enter here. Probably an owner will aim at the buckwheat noodles restaurant that all visitors can enjoy a quiet atmosphere. Article is here

Ryokan Shiki

Ryokan Shiki is a small-sized onsen ryokan with 6 guest rooms, and has been opened a business by the younger brother, a cook, from Osaka since 1974. His son runs the Ryokan Shiki at present. This ryokan is only hot spring facility for day trip onsen throughout the year in the Shinnoboribetsu onsen. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 500. A staying is possible, too. It is interesting that the guest rooms are named place names of Osaka.

There are 1 open-air bath and 1 indoor bath at a public bathroom. The bathroom is small but cozy, too, but it has a warmth of trees. The indoor bath is the size that about 3 people can take a bath, and uses hot springs with adding water. It has a faucet for cold water, so it is allowed to add the water for lowering the water temperature.

The open-air bath is the size that about 4 people can take a bath, and uses the hot springs with adding water. A wooden partition catch bathers's eyes first. The bath used to be mixed bathing. Some trees grow in front of the bathers'eye, so fresh green can be enjoyed in a summer, fall foliage can be enjoyed in an autumn, and snow can be enjoyed in a winter while bathing. A sense of openness can be felt without a roof, and the bathers can relax while enjoying sulfur odor. By the way, the bathers seem to be able to enjoy the mud with the innocence of my child, too. But the mud hardly collected on the bottom of the bath when I visited here.

Shinnoboribetsu Onsen-so

Shinnoboribetsu Onsen-so is a onsen inn opened a business only during July and August, and is popular with onsen experts very much. The older brother couple living in Osaka stay here to do a business during the period. Because they opened the onsen only for a little over 60 days, it has something different and special. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 400. A staying is possible, too. Unfortunately, They closed down in 2015. A new owner take over their business and prepares for the starting business.

They have 4 public bathrooms, Open-air Baths, Nankishirahama Onsen (南紀白浜温泉), Noboribtsu Onsen (登別温泉) and Beppu Onsen (別府温泉). Because the bathrooms are not divided into the bathroom for men or the bathroom for women, his wife controls the bathing order of visitors. The indoor bathrooms are almost chartered, and the open-air baths are almost uses for gender segregated bath.

There are 1 large open-air bath, 1 small open-air bath and 1 open-air bath named Taiko-no-Yu (太閤の湯) at the outside. The open-air baths are surrounded by trees, and a view is not good, but a sence of openness can be felt without a roof.

The large open-air bath with the hottest hot springs in 3 open-air baths is the size that about 8 people can take a bath, and the depth of the bathtub is nearly 1 m. The small open-air bath and the Taiko-no-Yu seat 1 person. All the baths use 100% natural free flowing hot springs. Taiko-no-Yu with the lukewarmest hot springs is set on the highest position, and bathers can enjoy the overflowing hot springs from the bathtub. It is a comfortable moment.

The Nankishirahama Onsen, the Noboribtsu Onsen and the Beppu Onsen are small chartered bathrooms with an atmosphere such as the Japanese old-type domestic bathrooms. I took a bath at the Nankishirahama Onsen and the Noboribtsu Onsen. There is 1 indoor bath at each bathrooms, and it seats 1 person. Each indoor baths seem to be different from the size of the bathtub and water temperature. The bathers can enjoy the overflowing hot springs from bathtub, too. But I felt good the open-air baths than indoor baths generally.
