Asahikawa (旭川) that about 340,000 people live is the 2nd largest commercial city in Hokkaido, and has flourished as the center of the North Hokkaido area. I visited here around 15:00 on a weekday. 2 groups of customers had already drunk. I sat a counter seat, and looked at menus on a wall. Then a waitress asked me "What would you like to drink?", so I ordered a non-alcoholic beer, and ordered the Shinkoyaki and 4 types of grilled chicken on a skewer successively. The prices were the Shinkoyaki (JPY 1200), a grilled chicken on a skewer (かしわ * JPY 100), a grilled chicken spleen on a skewer (あずき * JPY 100), a grilled chicken gizzard on a skewer (えんがわ * JPY 100), a grilled pig tongue on a skewer (豚タン * JPY 120), a small appetizer (お通し JPY 100) and the non-alcoholic beer (JPY 400). The Shinkoyaki has 2 types of seasonings, salt and sauce, and half and half can be ordered, too, so salt taste and sauce taste can be enjoyed. By the way, it takes about 30 minutes to grill the Shinkoyaki.
While waiting for the Shinkoyaki, the waitress served a dish of small appetizer and dishes of the grilled chickens on the skewers at intervals. After all, the grilled chickens on the skewers were very tasty. Those had an exquisite seasoning with salt, and must go well with alcohol if I did not drive to here. Other customers ordered Chapdon Rice Bowl (チャップ丼), so I supposed that it was popular.
After a while, the Shinkoyaki was served. each half of young chickens were grilled with different seasonings. I took a picture before a waiter cut and divide the grilled half of young chicken. Thanks for the waiter! I ate it immediately. The grilled half of young chicken with salt was light taste, and the grilled half of young chicken with sauce was good taste. I think that it is hard to eat the whole of the chicken only with salt. But the half and half is good deal. Thanks for the tasty chickens!
