[Shimo-osobetsu Onsen in Shibecha] Day Trip Bath and Fresh Moor Hot Spring Can Be Enjoyed at Ajikoen
CONTENTS
Shimo-osobetsu Onsen
Shimo-osobetsu Onsen is a hot spring place in Shibecha town located in the northern direction of Kushiro city. Only Ajikoen (味幸園) is built in Osobetsu plain (オソツベツ原野) beside the northern tip of Kushiro-Shitsugen Wetland (釧路湿原), and is about 1 km away from Mashu National Route (National Route 391). Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built around the building.

As for the Shimo-osobetsu Onsen, simple alkaline spring with moor hot spring are gushed out. The moor spring is brown spring that gushes out from a peat bed or a lignitic bed, and contains a lot of organics of plant origin, so it has slippery touch, and is good for a skin, and is called beauty hot spring (美人の湯), too. The moor spring is different from usual types of the hot springs, and the hot springs are recognized as the moor spring if those contain humus. Hokkaido Shimbun introduced that sodium chloride spring turned into simple alkaline spring because of the Kushiro‐Oki Earthquake in 1993. Wow, strange things do happen.

Kushiro-Shitsugen Wetland National Park
Kushiro-Shitsugen Wetland National Park (釧路湿原国立公園) that 500,000 people visit every year is a famous sightseeing spot in the Eastern Hokkaido and is the largest wetland with 18,290 ha in Japan. It was designed as a wetland under Ramsar Convention in 1980, and developments had been limited strictly. There are many rare animals inhabit and plants including Japanese cranes, Blakiston’s fish-owls that are only 100 in Hokkaido, Iijima Ruriboshiyanma (イイジマルリボシヤンマ) that is the remaining specy in the glacial epoch, Itou fish (イトウ) that is said to be a very rare fish, Kushiro jacob’s ladder (クシロハナシノブ) that is the remaining specy in the glacial epoch, Bogberry and Yachibouzu (ヤチボウズ). Day Trip Onsen
Visitors can take a day trip bath at the Ajikoen.

Ajikoen
Ajikoen is a single-storied hot spring facility for day trip bath in Osobetsu plain, and has opened a business since 1979. A garden is in front of the building, and is appeal, too. The hot spring facility is famous for enjoying 100% natural moor hot springs with smooth and slipery touch, so onsen evangelists highly evaluate the hot springs, and it is popular with local people, too. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 500. When I watched about the Ajikoen on the internet, the hot springs seemed to be effective against atopic dermatitis, and a lot of visitors take out the hot springs in their home.

There are 2 indoor baths at a small tiled public bathroom. The large indoor bath is the size that about 5 peopel can take a bath, and the small indoor bath is the size that about 3 people can take a bath. The large indoor bath does not have a faucet for cold water, and the small indoor bath has a faucet for cold water, so it is allowed to add the water for lowering the water temperature. The hot springs of each baths have been gushing out from a mouth of a lion, and the hot springs have been overflowing from baths, and have been flowing freely. It is very comfortable.

In addition, brown hot spring ingredients that have been precipitated on the bath floor and the lion is a highlight. Probably the hot spring ingredients will not precipitate on the part that the hot springs always flow. A lower jaw of the lion is white, and I suppose that the whole might be white in old days. By the way, the hot springs are used as hot water of showers and faucets at wash places.

The hot springs are simple hot spring with moor hot springs, and are clear and brown and have a little sweet taste and moor smell, and have very smooth and slippery touch. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.770 g/kg. The meta-silicic acid content is 227.1 mg/kg. It is said that the hot springs including the meta-silicic acid with over 200 mg/kg is effective for beautiful skin. Because the public health center does not admit it, unfortunately the hot springs are not drinkable. Soaps are provided at the bathroom. Because there is not a restroom at a dressing room, you should get a wash beforehand at the restroom along a corridor.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons.
