[Shikaribetsu Kohan Onsen in Shikaoi] Day Trip Bath and Non-Daily Life Can Be Enjoyed in White World

Lake Shikaribetsu in Shikaoi town located in the northwestern part of Obihiro city is a lake located in the highest place at altitude of 800 m in the lakes of Hokkaido, and is the only natural lake in Daisetsuzan National Park. The distnace is around 30 km far away from the center of the Shikaoi, and Shikaribetsu Kohan Onsen (然別湖畔温泉) is in the western side of Lake Shikaribetsu. Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built. Shikaribetsu-Kotan (然別コタン) is held from late January to late March during the frozen lake, and an open-air bath is open to the public.
There are a pleasure boat platform, Shikaribetsu Nature Center (然別湖ネイチャーセンター), a footbath and a restroom in the hot spring resort, and tourists can enjoy the lake and onsen. Fresh green, the pleasure boat, a canoe and a kayak can be enjoyed in a summer, fall foliage can be enjoyed in an autumn, and Shikaribetsu-Kotan (然別コタン) can be enjoyed in a winter. There are Lake Komadome (駒止湖), Ogigahara Lookout (扇ケ原展望台) and Shikaribetsu Hokugan Campsite (然別湖畔北岸野営場) near here. Kanno Onsen (菅野温泉), Shikaribetsukyo Campsite (然別峡野営場), Shikaribetsukyo Shika-no-Yu (然別峡 鹿の湯) and Lake Shinonome (東雲湖) are relatively near here, too. In addition, there is Fukuharasan-so (福原山荘), a famous place to see the fall foliage, too.
Lake Shikaribetsu is a freshwater lake at 804 m above sea level, the highest lake in Hokkaido, between Shikaoi town and Kamishihoro town located in the north part of Obihiro city, and is well-known for enjoying the beautiful starry sky. In the Eastern Daisetsu Area (東大雪エリア), Daisetsuzan National Park, this lake is also the only natural lake in the Daisetsuzan National Park. The perimeter of the lake is about 13.8 km. The maximum water depth is 98.5 m. The lake water is very clear, and it is said that the lake is the 2nd clearest lake after Lake Mashu in Japan or the clearest lake in the Japan, and there are various opinions about clear lake water. Shikaribetsu Kohan Onsen
Shikaribetsu Kohan Onsen (然別湖畔温泉) is a hot spring resort in Shikaoi town located in the northwestern part of Obihiro city. Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan
Lake Shikaribetsu Kotan (然別コタン) is a winter event in Shikaoi town located in the north part of Obihiro city, and has been held on Lake Shikaribetsu near the hot spring resort from late January to late March since 1980, and about 40,000 tourists come to enjoy winter cold. Buildings called igloo made of snow and ice by Inuit people are built on 80-100 cm-thick lake ice, and Kotan (コタン * a village of the Ainu people) is formed. Making period is about 1 month. Because the village shows up on the frozen lake only in a winter, it is called the phantom village. Indeed, if snow and ice melt, nothing remains. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge. Daisetsuzan National Park
Daisetsuzan National Park (大雪山国立公園) is the largest national park of 226,763.56 ha in Japan. A mountain named Daisetsuzan does not exist, and the whole area including the mountains with over 2,000 m above sea level such as Mt. Asahidake (旭岳), the highest mountain in Hokkaido, Mt. Kurodake (黒岳), Mt. Aibestudake (愛別岳), Mt. Tomuraushi (トムラウシ山) is collectively called "Daisetsuzan". A right notation is "Daisetsuzan", but local people often call "Taisetsuzan". For a vast area, Daisetsuzan National Park roughly divide into 4 areas, Omote Daisetu Area (表大雪エリア * Front Daisetsu Area), North Daisetsu Area (北大雪エリア), East Daisetsu Area (東大雪エリア * Back Daisestu Area), Tokachirenpo Area (十勝連峰エリア). Shikaribetsuko Kotan Open-air Bath on Frozen Lake
Shikaribetsuko Kotan Open-air Bath is a popular event at a building made of snow and ice on the frozen lake. It is the unusual experience that bathers can take a bath on the lake. An entrance fee to the bath facility is free of charge. The bath is served mixed bathing basically, but the bathing time only for men is from 18:00 to 20:00, and the bathing time only for women is from 20:00 to 22:00.
There are 2 public bathrooms at the snow building, and each bathrooms have a bathroom and a dressing room. There is 1 open-air bath at the bathroom. The round bath like an oil drum is the size that about 5 people can take a bath, and uses 100% free flowing hot springs linked with Hotel Fusui.
The open-air bath is at a little high place, so a view is very good from the bath! I was surprised at too sense of openness. I felt comfortable to see snow world. A wash place is not provided, so I regret to pour hot water on myself before taking a bath, but I forgot daily life below the freezing point.
The hot springs are sodium chloride carbonated spring, and are clear and light green and have salty taste and no smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 2.585 g/kg. The meta-silicic acid content is 208.1 mg/kg. It is said that the hot springs including the meta-silicic acid with over 200 mg/kg is effective for beautiful skin. There is a changing box at the dressing room. Bathers can take a bath in wrapping body with bath towel or in wearing their swimwears.
