Weeping Cherry Tree of Houki Temple
Houki Temple (法亀寺) is a temple in the center of Hokuto city located in the northern direction of Hakodate city, but it is away from Hakodate-Shinhokuto Station (函館新北斗駅). Mr. Kinbei Nakamura (中村金兵衛) asked Mr. Nichido Kaneko (金子日能), a then chief priest of Jikko Temple (実行寺) in Hakodate, to built a temple, and he named new temple as Hokian (法亀庵) in 1849. The temple moved to the current place in 1889, and was renamed the Houki Temple before moving. It is famous for a large weeping cherry tree at grounds of the temple, and it is called “Weeping Cherry Tree of Houki Temple (法亀寺のしだれ桜)”, and is one of Hokuto Cherry Blossom Corridor (北斗桜回廊) with about 120,000 visitors. Hokuto Municipal Health Center
Hokuto Municipal Health Center is a public bathhouse founded in 1993 along Ono River, and is crowded with local people. Restaurant Rushero (食事処「軽食 ルシェロ」) is at a building, too. An entrance fee to the bath facility is JPY 400. They serve a hot marumero bath in late October, * the marumero is medlar in English, and serve a hot citron bath, a cypress leaf bath and a iris leaf bath on November 1.
There are 1 outdoor bath, 2 indoor baths, 1 whirlpool bath, 2 cascading baths, 1 cool bath and 1 sauna at a large public bathhouse. The bathhouse with a ceiling with about 6 m in height is roughly divided into 3 parts, and is cleaned everyday. The one part has 1 large indoor bath and 2 cascading baths, and the large indoor bath is the size that about 20 people can take a bath, and uses free flowing hot springs with adding water.
Anothe part has 1 middle-sized indoor bath, 1 whirlpool bath, 1 cool bath and 1 sauna. The middle-sized indoor bath is the size that about 10 people can take a bath, and uses free flowing hot springs with adding water. The whirlpool bath is the size that about 8 people can take a bath, and uses heated water.
The outdoor bath is the size that about 8 people can take a bath. Unfortunately, it has a roof and a blindfold fence, so a sence of openness and a marvelous view can not be enjoyed. In addition, the murmuring of the Ono River (Seseragi means the murmuring of the river in English) can not be heard. Hot spring ingredients seem to be rich, and there are excellent stones that the hot spring ingredients precipitated on a bathtub of the outdoor bath. A touch of the bath is good, and is comfortable. I think this is the amazing bath.
The hot springs are sodium and calcium chloride spring, and are clear and light yellow and have a little salty taste and no smell, and are not drinkable. A shampoo and a body soap are not provided at the bathhouse, so bathers have to bring those theirselves. A restroom and a free hair dryer are installed at a dressing room.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
