[Miuraya in Tomakomai] To My Surprise, Seafood Rice Bowl with Surf Clam Is Very Reasonable
Shunsen Chubo Miuraya (旬鮮厨房 三浦や) is a popular restaurant near Tomakomai Citizen's Cultutre Park (苫小牧市民文化公園) in Tomakomai city, and is known for serving reasonable dishes. The restaurant is popular with local people, and is crowded with them at lunchtime. Lately, toursists are also increasing. By the way, the restaurant owner of the Miuraya seems to be relative with the founder of Marutoma Shokudo (マルトマ食堂), one of the most popular restaurants in the Tomakomai. They are a family to support dishes in the Tomakomai.
The appearance and the interior decoration have an atomosphere such as a typical good old local Japanese restraunt. The restaurant is suitable for just local people, so tourists should not expect too much. In addition, a lot of Manga books are provided, so local people relax themselves. The restaurant is not small, and all seats are table seats, so I guess that even family customers may enjoy meals. But crowded restaurant is expetcted at lunchtime, and it takes time to cook dishes. By the way, Express Tomakomai-go (高速とまこまい号) or Hascup-go (ハスカップ号), express buses, run between Sapporo and the Tomakomai. Besides, Rent-a-car can be rented around Tomakomai Station.

Because the Tomakomai is close to New Chitose Airport, and Tomakomai Ferry terminal is built, so the Tomakomai has traffic convenience. Read More
Seafood Rice Bowl with Surf Clam
Because I heard very reasonable dishes from my friend, I visited here around 11:30 on a weekday. 6 groups of customers already enjoyed their meals. Customers must pay a bill at a cash register before eating, so I went to the cash register, and Seafood Rice Bowl with Surf Clam (海鮮ホッキ丼) was written on a blackboard. I supposed that they wrote arriving seafood at that day on the blackbiard. The Tomakomai was the most caching place of surf clam in Japan, so I wanted to eat it. Customers can not eat the surf clam, a local specialty in the Tomakomai, if unlucky. I ordered the seafood rice bowl with the surf clam without delay. The price was JPY 1,000.
Customers can choose a type of rice between vinegared rice and standard rice. I chose the standard rice. They give customers their numbers after paying a bill, and they take their dishes when their numbers are announced. The restaurant opens a business only at lunchtime, and drinks and alcohol are not provide, so customers are permitted to bring their own alcohol and drinks. Water and tea are also available at self-service counter.
About 10 minutes later, my numer was announced, and I took a bowl of the Seafood Rice Bowl with Surf Clam and a bowl of miso soup. Rice was closely covered with slices of surf clam, slices of tuna, slices of cuttlefish, slices of octopus, slices of salmon, slices of great amberjack, salmon roe, omelet and kamaboko of crab flavor. I was surprised at a large portion of the sashimi compared to the prices. I could understand my friend's recommendation.
Wasabi was on the slice of the salmon, and I mixed the wasabi with soy sauce in a small dish with chopsticks. Then I poured it in the rice bowl, and ate it immediately. It was tasty! The surf clam had crunchy texture. Some sashimi were sloppy a little, but I enjoyed those. Since the rice bowl was a large portion, I was full. Thanks for the tasty meal! By the way, customers should return tableware themselves if they finish eating.
