[Bukkakeya in Hakodate] Seafood Rice Bowl Covered with Luxurious Seafood Looks Like Dishes of Feudal Lord

September 5th, 2014

Hakodate Bukkakeya

Asaichi Shokudo Hakodate Bukkakeya (朝市食堂函館ぶっかけ) is a restraunt founded in 1995 in Donburi Yokocho (どんぶり横丁), Hakodate Morning Market (函館朝市), Hakodate city, and is near Hakodate Station. Yayoi-suisan corp. (有限会社弥生水産), a marine product processing industry company, runs it, and the restraunt serves fresh seafood. By the way, the Donburi Yokocho is a commercial facility that more than 15 restaurants selling Seafood Rice Bowl (海鮮丼) in the Hakodate Morning Market gather. To be frank, I was having trouble deciding which restaurants I would go in. I chose the restraunt by contents of dishes, a price and word of mouth.

Appearance of Restraunt

The restraunt is not large, and the interior decoration looks new. Counter seats and table seats are provided, so I guess that even family customers enjoy meals.

HAKODATE

Hakodate (函館) that about 260,000 people live is the 3rd largest port city in Hokkaido, and is a regional hub city of the Southern Hokkaido area. The Hakodate became incorporated with Toi town (戸井), Esan town (恵山), Todohokke village (椴法華) and Minami-kayabe town (南茅部) in 2004, and most of Kameda Peninsula (亀田半島) has changed to the Hakodate. It is one of most popular tourist cities in the Hokkaido, and about 5 million people visit here. The downtown of the Hakodate from Mt. Hakodate toward former Goryokaku fort is developed on a large sandbar between the seas, and a unique seashore landscape is very popular. Although a lot of tourists think the center town of the Hakodate is around Hakodate Station and the Mt. Hakodate, it is around Hakodate Streetcar Goryokaku Koen-mae Stop (函館市電五稜郭公園前駅). The Hakodate is also well-known as a city with a lot of slopes, and there are 19 slopes with its name such as Hachiman-zaka slope (八幡坂), Daisan-zaka slope (大三坂) and Motoi-zaka slope (基坂), so around the Mt. Hakodate has a lot of slope lands, and the Hakodate has a lot of narrow roads. As for a climate, the Hakodate is wamer than other cities in the Hokkaido because it is located of the Southern Hokkaido, and it does not snow hard. Article is here

Daimyomori Seafood Rice Bowl

I knew the Bukkakeya by word of mouth, and visited here to eat Daimyomori Seafood Rice Bowl (大名盛) around 09:00 on a weekday. A group of customers savored their meals. I sat at a table seat, and ordered it. The price was JPY 1,500. The Daimyomori was named after a feudal lord (Daimyo). * The mori means "dish up" in Japanese. Rice was exhaustively covered with seafood, and the dish looked like a luxurious meal often eaten by a feudal lord.

About 5 minutes later, the rice bowl was served with a bowl of miso soup and a dish of cuttlefish guts pickled in salt. Seafood such as scallop, sweet prawns, sea urchin, salmon roe, negitoro (tuna fish sashimi and shallot) and so on were on rice. The appearance sharpened my appetite. I enjoyed a feeling of the feudal lord, too. I ate it immediately. The fresh seafood was very tasty after all. I could not stop eating. In addition, the cuttlefish guts pickled in salt was also tasty. Thanks for the tasty meal!
