Isoyakitei (磯焼亭) is a popular restaurant in Oshidomari, Rishiri Island, and is near Oshidomari Ferry Port and Cape Peshi (ペシ岬). They got the Bib Gourmand in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition and 2017 Special Edition. From June to September limited to Raw Sea Urchin Rice Bowl (生ウニ丼) using sea urchin eating Rishiri Kombu and Rishiri Ramen are popular.
Cape Peshi (ペシ岬) is a cape near Yuhigaoka Observation Deck (夕日ヶ丘展望台) in the northern part of Rishiri Island (利尻島), and is also a lookout point adjacent to Oshidomari Port (鴛泊港). The cape is famous for seeing the beautiful sunset. Peshi means "A cliff" in Ainu language. As its name suggests, the cape is a rocky mountain with precipitous cliffs. The elevation is 93 m. Peshimisaki Observation Deck (ペシ岬展望台) is built on the mountaintop, and nice 360-degree view can be seen. Besides the observation deck, Oshidomari Lighthouse (鴛泊灯台), Oshidomari Peshimisaki Open Space (鴛泊ペシ岬広場) and Graveyard for 3 Feudal Retainers of Aizu Clan (会津藩士墓碑) are built at the site. Tourist facilities such as a parking lot, a restroom and a souvenir shop are not built. Admission free. Read More
The Isoyakitei on the 1st floor of a 2 story building is one of stores in a local product directly store facility run by Rishiri Fishery Cooperative (利尻漁協). The restaurant is not so large, and looks a local seafood izakaya. Fishing boat flags hang on walls, so it is lively. Counter seats, table seats and a small separate Japanese style room are provided, so I guess that even family customers enjoy meals.
There are some means of transportation for the island tourism, for example, a sightseeing bus and a fixed-route bus managed by Soya bus (宗谷バス), a sightseeing taxi, a rental car, a rental motor scooter and a rental bicycle. I went around the Rishiri Island by the rental motor scooter, and it was very comfortable. By the way, if tourists raise their hand in the case of fixed-route bus happening to pass, they can get on the bus without a bus stop, and can get off the bus without a bus stop.

Sea Urchin Rice Bowl
I visited here to eat the Raw Sea Urchin Rice Bowl around 17:00 on a weekday. No one enjoyed a meal. I sat at a table seat, and ordered the Raw Sea Urchin Rice Bowl and a glass of beer. The price of the Raw Sea Urchin Rice Bowl was JPY 4000, and the price of beer was JPY 600. By the way, a waiter told me "Ramen is sold out at dinner time".
2 minutes later, the beer was served, and the sea urchin rice bowl was served afterwards. A content of the set meal was a bowl of the Raw Sea Urchin Rice Bowl, a dish of Nishime Kombu, a bowl of miso soup and a dish of pickled radishes. Orange horse-dung sea urchin and green wasabi caught my eyes when I opened a cover of the rice bowl. The horse-dung sea urchin was orange color, and purple sea urchin was whitish color. The vivid color conbination sharpened my appetite.
I mixed wasabi with soy sauce in a smal dish, and poured it in the rice bowl. I ate the horse-dung sea urchin. It was very tasty! Rich taste sea urchin melted in my mouth, and it was a strong sweetness, and I had eaten exhaustively as soon as I ate the sea urchin with the rice. Fishing season of the horse-dung sea urchin was July and August, and a day when I came was September 1, so I was able to barely eat fresh horse-dung sea urchin. Thanks for the tasty meal!
