Speaking of the Sarufutsu, Scallop is famous. It is the most scallops landed town in Japan. The noted food can be eaten at the Yumekukan shop and Restraunt "Fusetsu". The Yumekukan shop serves Scallop Rice (ホタテめし), Grilled Scallops on a Skewer (ホタテ串) and Cowberry Flavored Soft Serve Ice Cream (コケモモソフトクリーム), and those are popular. Fresh large scallops are reasonable price. The Restraunt "Fusetsu" serves Scallop Rice and Curry, and it has a good reputation. In addition, the Sarufutsu Ikoi-no-Yu has public bathhouses with heated water (not onsen), and visitors can take a bath for JPY 300. A coin operated laundry is also at the building. Those are popular with campers and people stayed in a vehicle.

North Okhotsk Prefectural Natural Park
North Okhotsk Prefectural Natural Park (北オホーツク自然公園) is a natural park among Sarufustu village, Hamatonbetsu town and Esashi town in the northern part of Hokkaido, and has been designated as the prefectural natural park since 1968. The area is 3,927 ha. Groups of lakes and swamps such as Lake Kutcharo (クッチャロ湖), wild flowers in Beniya Primitive Flower Garden (ベニヤ原生花園), and wild birds such as Motacilla Flava and Swan can be observed in this area. A lot of tourists do not come. The natural park has been chosen as one of 100 Unexplored Regions in Japan (日本の秘境100選), and is contained in 500 Important Wetlands in Japan (日本の重要湿地500). Look of Sarufutsu Park
The Isari monument, the Rosian Ship Indigirka Victim Cenotaph, Scallop Fossil of About 4,000 Years Ago (約4000年前の帆立貝の化石) and the parking lot are built along the sea. The sea of Okhotsk (オホーツク海) can be viewed from the sea side. Esanbehanakitakojima Island (エサンベ鼻北小島) may be seen. The Isari monument was built as Sarufutsu people's memorial. They exhausted fishing resources, and suffered extreme poverty. But they raise the scallops, and will recover the rich sea. I guess that it means "A Chinease proverb 臥薪嘗胆 * Perseverance". The Rosian Ship Indigirka Victim Cenotaph was built as memorial in 1971. In 1939, the ship capsized and sunk off the coast, and about 700 people passed away. On the other hand, the Sarufutsu people saved about 400 people.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
