[Sankaidaki Park in Date] Beauty Spot with Negative Ion
Sankaidaki Park (三階瀧公園) is a park in Otaki ward, Date city between Lake Shikotsu (支笏湖) and Lake Toya (洞爺湖), and is near Kitayuzawa Onsen (北湯沢温泉). The park is known as a good place to see fall foliage, and is famous for Sankaidaki Falls with fall foliage. The park was named after the Sankaidaki Falls. Sankaidaki Falls (三階滝), Shinsui Park (親水公園), Hill of Totem Pole (トーテムポールの丘), Kanrohousui Spring (甘露法水), a parking lot and a public restroom are at the park. Aronia soft serve ice cream used to be provided only at a souvenir shop in Japan, but it was shutted down. Admission free. The parking lot is free of charge.
Kitayuzawa Onsen (北湯沢温泉) is a hot-spring place in Date city located in the northern direction of Muroran city. 5 accommodations dot along Osaru River and National Route 453 (Usu National Route) linked Lake Toya with Lake Shikotsu. In the Osaru River with 50.4 km in total length, after volcanic ash had been deposited on the riverbed, green tuff bedrock has exposed at Kitayuzawa Onsen district only for about 2 km, so the scenery was named "Shirakinu-no-Yuka (白絹の床)" after color of the bedrock. Tourists can play in the river because of the shallow depth. If you play it, you should bring a towel to wipe your feet. Read More
Look of Sankaidaki Park
As its name suggests, Sankaidaki River is divided into 3 parts while falling. * The sankai means "3 floors" in English, and the daki means "A waterdall" in English. A waterfall with a fall is about 10 m. In a spring, the falls is very powerful because of snow meltwater. I visited here in late summer, and a negative ion was comfortable. A drinking fountain called "Kanrohousui Spring (甘露法水)" is nearby the Sankaidaki River. Underground water gushes out from 380 m below ground. When I drinked it, it tasted mild. It is said that a lot of visitors bring it back.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
