Easy Access to High Moor at 4 M Above Sea Level -Minamihama Wetland in Rishiri Island-

Minamihama Wetland (南浜湿原) located in the southern part of Rishiri Island (利尻島) is the largest wetland in Rishiri Island. But the area is about 6 ha. It is not so large. The Minamihama Wetland is high moors that "Sphagnum Moss" grow thick on lowlands near the sea, and it is a rare place in Japan. Around Menyushoro Pond (メヌウショロ沼), 2 wooden paths are built. Sightseeing buses do not stop, and there are few tourists. Tourists can enjoy to go around the Minamihama Wetland leisurely, and it becomes a popular sightseeing spot secretly. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge.
More than 100 kinds of damp plants and alpine plants can be seen, and it is famous for seeing many flowers in Rishiri Island. In a spring, Skunk Cabbage and Gagea bloom, and Marsh Tea, Huckleberry and Hare's-Tail Cottongrass bloom in a summer, and Plantain Lily and Lobelia bloom in an autumn. In addition, except a parking lot, facilities have only a restroom.
