[Rebun Onsen] Day Trip Onsen Can Be Enjoyed at Rebuntou Onsen Usuyuki-no-Yu
Rebuntou Onsen (礼文島温泉) is a hot spring place in Rebun Island (礼文島) located in the northern part of Hokkaido. Rebuntou Onsen Usuyuki-no-Yu (礼文島温泉 うすゆきの湯) is around 200 m away from Kafuka Ferry Terminal. Around here is the center of the rebun, and restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, bars with a surcharge and Izakaya are built. Kita-no-Kanaria Park (北のカナリアパーク) and Momoiwa Observatry (桃岩展望台) are relatively near here, too. By the way, Speaking of tasty restaurants in the Rebun, Robata Chidori (炉ばた ちどり), Atoi Shokudo (あとい食堂) and Kaisendokoro Kafuka (海鮮処 かふか) are popular in particular. I ate foods at the Kaisendokoro Kafuka and Futaba Shokudo (双葉食堂), and those were tasty.
Kaisendokoro Kafuka (海鮮処かふか) is a seafood restaurant in Rebun Island. Kafuka fishery cooperative (香深漁協) runs it, and there is a building near Kafuka Port. It is popular for eating fresh seafood. I visited here around 11:00 on weekdays. A waitress asked me whether I grilled the seafood at first when I entered the restraunt. They seem to show me to a room of Japanese-style barbecue cooked in front of customers if I want to grill a sea urchin and an atka mackerel and eat those. But I wanted to eat a rice bowl, they showed me to my table at the restraunt. The restraunt was so large, and there were many tables and family customers seem to enjoy. Read More
Futaba Shokudo (双葉食堂) in Funadomari-mura is located in the northern part of Rebun island. This is a long-established restraunt founded in 1960. They serve ramen (ラーメン), buckwheat noodle (そば), curry and rice (カレーライス) and rice bowls. It is not the restaurant for tourists and is the restaurant which local people use. Therefore the opening hour is not fixed in particular, too, and it seemed to open the restraunt around 12:30 on this day. I heard that the ramen of Futaba Shokudo was tasty and visited around 13:30 on weekdays. Read More
There are some means of transportation for the island tourism, for example, a sightseeing bus and a fixed-route bus managed by the Soya bus (宗谷バス), a sightseeing taxi, a rental car, a rental motor scooter and a rental bicycle. I went around the Rebun Island by the rental motor scooter, and it was very comfortable. The Rebun has a lot of slopes, so I think that the bicycle is tough. By the way, if tourists raise their hand in the case of fixed-route bus happening to pass, they can get on the bus without a bus stop, and can get off the bus without a bus stop.
Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park
Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park (利尻礼文サロベツ国立公園) located in the northern Hokkaido between Rishiri Island, Rebun Island, Toyotomi Town and Horonobe Town is the northernmost national park in Japan, and has been designated as the national park since 1974. The area is 24,166 ha. It consists of 2 islands, wetlands and the coast, and beautiful nature such as the sea, mountains, wild flowers and wetlands is highlight. Because the Northern Hokkaido has few famous tourist attracsions, the national park is one of the most famous nature tourist attracsions. The Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park is divided into 4 areas, Rishiri Area (利尻), Rebun Area (礼文), Coastal Sand-dune Area (海浜砂丘) and Sarobetsu Area (サロベツ), and the Rishiri Area (利尻), the Rebun Area (礼文) and the Sarobetsu Area have a lot of highlights. Rebuntou Onsen Usuyuki-no-Yu
Rebuntou Onsen Usuyuki-no-Yu is a hot spring facility for day trip onsen founded in 2009, and is popular for enjoying free flowing hot springs. A building is near the Kafuka Port, and it may be a good idea to take a bath to wait for a ferry. An entrance fee to the bath facility is JPY 600. A chartered bath is provided, too, and an extra cost is JPY 1000 per 50 minutes.
There are 1 outdoor bath, 2 indoor baths, 1 whirlpool bath, 1 cold bath and 1 sauna at a public bathhouse on the 2nd floor. The sunny tiled bathhouse with large windows is feeling good. Mt. Rishirifuji can be seen through the windows. The large indoor bath is the size that about 12 people can take a bath, and water temperature is around 41 C. The small indoor bath is the size that about 6 people can take a bath, and water temperature is around 38 C. Both baths use natural hot springs.
The stone outdoor bath is the size that about 4 people take a bath, and uses natural free flowing hot springs. Because the outdoor bath surrounded by walls has a roof, a sence of openness can not be felt. But Mt. Rishirifuji can be seen, so bathers can enjoy a good view and a ferry.
The hot springs are sodium chloride sulfate spring, and are clear and colorless and have neither taste nor smell, and are not drinkable. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 1.364 g/kg. By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
