[Momoiwa Observatoion Deck in Rishiri Island] One of Best Good Viewing Spots in Flower Island

Momoiwa Observatoion Deck

Momoiwa Observatoion Deck (桃岩展望台) is a lookout point built on a hill at 228 m above sea level in the southwestern part of Rebun Island (礼文島). 360-degree view can be seen. The Momoiwa Observatoion Deck was named after Momoiwa Rock of about 250 m elevation (桃岩 * Momo means a peach in English and iwa means a rock in English) in front of visitor's eyes, and its shape looks like the shape of a peach. Nekoiwa Rock (猫岩 * Neko means a cat in English) like the shape of a cat back in the sea and Rishiri Island (利尻島) can be seen, too. The Momoiwa Rock and the Nekoiwa Rock are two of 3 great strange shaped rocks in the Rebun Island together with Jizoiwa Rock (地蔵岩). A parking lot is offered near an entrance to the observatoion deck, and a public restroom is built beside the parking lot. Admission free. The parking lot is free of charge. By the way, the visitors must go up a hill from Kafuka Port (香深港) to here, and may considerably have a hard time on foots or by bicycles. I was dead tired. But coming back was a breeze.

There are some means of transportation for the island tourism, for example, a sightseeing bus and a fixed-route bus managed by the Soya bus (宗谷バス), a sightseeing taxi, a rental car, a rental motor scooter and a rental bicycle. I went around the Rebun Island by the rental motor scooter, and it was very comfortable. The Rebun has a lot of slopes, so I think that the bicycle is tough. By the way, if tourists raise their hand in the case of fixed-route bus happening to pass, they can get on the bus without a bus stop, and can get off the bus without a bus stop.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
