Ramen Sapporo Akaboshi (らーめんサッポロ赤星) is a popular ramen restraunt along Tanukikoji Shopping Street in Chuo ward, Sapporo city, and is located between Odori Park (大通公園) and Susukino (ススキノ). Mr. Norifumi Demura (出村 範史), a ramen restraunt owner, has established it since 2004. The Sapporo Akaboshi is famous for seving one coin ramen of JPY 500, and a line is formed in busy time. The slim ramen restraunt is not large, and only counter seats are provided, so except lunchtime, I guess that even family customers may enjoy meals.
Odori Park (大通公園) is in the very center of Sapporo city, and is located between Sapporo Station and Susukino. Offices and commercial facilities are built around the park, and it is just at very center of the big city. But 92 types 4,700 trees such as lilac, Japanese elm and cherry tree are planted, and fountains and flower beds are built, so the park is well-known as a place of relief for Sapporo citizens as well as tourists. The park has been chosen as one of The 100 Best Roads in Japan (日本の道100選), Japanese City Park Best 100 (日本の都市公園100選), The 100 Best Townscapes (都市景観100選) and Japan's Top 100 Historical Parks (日本の歴史公園100選), so it is one of the most famous parks in Japan. Sapporo (札幌) that about 1,960,000 people live is the largest city in Hokkaido. Although there are various theories, its origin of the name is "Dry Big River (乾いた大きな川)" in Ainu language. A population of the Sapporo is the 4th largest city after Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya in japan, and the population accounts for 36 % of Hokkaido's population! So the Sapporo has been flourished as the center of the Hokkaido. The area of the Sapporo is 1,121.26 km2, and is about as big as Hong Kong, and is the 7th largest city in the Hokkaido. The Sapporo is also famous as a tourist city, and about 15 million people come. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 25 degrees in a summer, but it is easy to live without moisture. I always feel a little cool. It is cold that temperature falls to nearly -10 degrees in a winter, and amount of snowfall sometimes has more than 1 m. Read More
Ramen of Hokkaido
Ramen is a noodle soup dish topped with ingredients. It is said that Chinese noodles is the root of the ramen, and there are various theories, for example, Mr. Mistukuni Tokugawa (徳川光圀 * Mitokomon (水戸黄門)) ate the ramen in 1697 for the first time in Japan or the first ramen was that Keitaimen noodles (経帯麺) served in 1488 was written in Biryueken Diary (蔭涼軒日録). Noodle soup dishes were spread out in Japan because Nanking noodles (南京そば) was served in various China Towns, Japan. In Hakodate with a China Town, Yowaken (養和軒) served the Nanking noodles in 1884. In Sapporo, it is a root of Sapporo Ramen that a noodle soup dish was cooked by Mr. Wang Wen Zai (王 文彩), a chief chef of Takeya Shokudo (竹家食堂), in 1922. Houran (芳蘭), a branch of the Takeya Shokudo, opened a business in 1933 in Asahikawa. Asahikawa Ramen, Sapporo Ramen and Hakodate Ramen called the 3 Major Ramen in Hokkaido were born. But current ramen do not succeed to the taste of those ramen. Read More
Creamy Chicken Broth Salt Ramen
I visited here to avoid crowded time around 13:00 on a weekday. But 9 counter seats were about full. Luckily, I sat only at the vacant seat, and read a menu hung on a wall. Salt Broth Ramen (塩ラーメン) and Soy Sauce Broth Ramen (醤油ラーメン) were popular. Each prices were JPY 500. Wow! Particularly, I ordered the Salt Broth Ramen because it was famous. By the way, the price of Miso Broth Ramen (味噌ラーメン) was JPY 700.
About 10 minutes later, the ramen was served. Creamy chicken soup was topped with green laver. Except the green laver, ingredients were a roasted pork fillet, bamboo shoots, a soft-boiled egg marinated in soy and Mirin and green onions. I ate a sip of the soup immediately. It was tasty! It was light taste, but it had Umami. Noodles were white homemade noodles, and went well with the soup. Those were also tasty! Those were unusual color because a lot of ramen restraunt used yellow ramen noodles made from eggs in the Sapporo.
In addition, a can of mackerel and garlic powder (鯖ニンニク粉) on a counter table is one of special seasoning of the Sapporo Akaboshi, too. Its taste was changed when I sprinkled it over the ramen. It was delicious, too! Since high quality ramen is served just for JPY 500, I think that the ramen is a very reasonable price. Thanks for the tasty ramen!

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
