[Kouraiken in Chitose] Very Mild and Tasty Ramen with Seafood in Thick Starchy Sauce
Kouraiken (香来軒) is a long-established restraunt founded in 1953 in Saiwai-cho, Chitose city, and faces New Sun Road Shopping Street (ニューサンロード商店), and is relatively near Chitose Station. The restraunt is well-known for serving Salt Broth Chow Mein (炒麺). Ramen (ラーメン), Fried Rice (チャーハン), Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl (カツ丼) and Chow Mein (五目焼きそば) as well as the Salt Broth Chow Mein also have a good reputation. The restraunt on the 1st floor of 2 story building has an atmosphere such as a good old restraunt, and is not so large. All seats are table seats, so I guess that even family customers may enjoy meals.
Speaking of tourist attractions in the Chitose, New Chitose Airport, Lake Shikotsu, Chitose Salmon Aquarium, Chitose Outlet Mall Rera, Roadside Station Salmon Park Chitose, Indian Watermill and Hill of Palette are famous. Hot springs gush out abundantly, and the Chitose has Shikotsuko Onsen, Marukoma Onsen, Shukubai Onsen, Matsubara Onsen, Shin-chitose Onsen and Neshikoshi Onsen.
Lake Shikotsu (支笏湖) in Chitose city is the 2nd largest caldera lake after Lake Kussharo in Japan, and was born by large-scale eruptions 40,000 years ago. In Shikotsu-Toya National Park, the perimeter of the lake is about 40 km, and the maximum depth is 360 m, and is the 2nd deepest lake after Lake Tazawa in Akita prefecture in Japan. It is said that the Lake Shikotsu is an unfrozen lake in the northernmost of Japan, but it sometimes is frozen actually. It is famous for clear water of the lake, too, and has transparency as well as Lake Mashu and Lake Baikal. Because the lake is close to New Chitose Airport, Sapporo city and Tomakomai city, it is a popular tourist attraction that a lot of tourists visit. Around the Lake Shikotsu, there are Shikotsuko Onsen Resort (支笏湖温泉街), Marukoma Onsen (丸駒温泉), Former Poropinai Camping Ground (ポロピナイ元キャンプ場), Bifue Camping Ground (美笛キャンプ場), Okotan Camping Ground (オコタン野営場), Lake Okotanpe (オコタンペ湖), Morappu Camping Ground (モラップキャンプ場), Mt Eniwadake (恵庭岳), Mt. Fushidake (風不死岳), Mt. Tarumae (樽前山) and Mt. Monbetsudake (紋別岳). Article is here
Shikotsuko Onsen (支笏湖温泉) is a hot-spring resort surrounded by forests and the lake in the east side of Lake Shikotsu (支笏湖) located in the western part of Chitose city. It succeeded in drilling hot springs in 1974, and is close to New Chitose Airport, Sapporo and Tomakomai, and 0.95 million people visit here annually. It features a few large buildings due to building restrictions. The hot-spring resort is not large, and there are 7 accommodations, a ferry port, Shikotsuko Visitor Center (支笏湖ビジターセンター), restaurants and souvenir shops. Sweets Shop Patissier Labo (スイーツショップ パティシエ・ラボ), Healthy Buffet Amamu (ヘルシービュッフェ アマム), Shokujidokoro Kotobuki (食事処 寿), Shikotsuko Daiichihotel Suizantei Taian (支笏湖第一寶亭留 翠山亭 苔庵) and azzurro (アズーロ) are popular in particular. Marukoma Onsen (丸駒温泉) is a hot spring place surrounded by forests and the lake at the foot of Mt. Eniwadake (恵庭岳) in the east side of Lake Shikotsu (支笏湖) located in the western part of Chitose city, and is famous for easy access to a secret onsen close to New Chitose Airport, Sapporo and Tomakomai. Shukubai Onsen (祝梅温泉) is a hot spring facility for day trip bath near Camp Higashi-Chitose (東千歳駐屯地) in Chitose city, and is well-known as onsen like ruins, but I think that the Shukubai Onsen is not as collapse as people. It is popular for local people and onsen enthusiasts, and is close to New Chitose Airport. Matubara Onsen (松原温泉) is a hot spring place in Chitose city located in the southeastern part of Sapporo city. Only Matubara Onsen Ryokan (松原温泉旅館) is built near National Route 337. Ice Cream Shop Hanacha (手作りアイス 花茶), Ensemble (アンサンブル) and Soba Izumi (いずみ) that have a good reputation are near here. In addition, Palette Hills (パレットの丘) is near, too. Article is here
Ramen of Hokkaido
Ramen is a noodle soup dish topped with ingredients. It is said that Chinese noodles is the root of the ramen, and there are various theories, for example, Mr. Mistukuni Tokugawa (徳川光圀 * Mitokomon (水戸黄門)) ate the ramen in 1697 for the first time in Japan or the first ramen was that Keitaimen noodles (経帯麺) served in 1488 was written in Biryueken Diary (蔭涼軒日録). Noodle soup dishes were spread out in Japan because Nanking noodles (南京そば) was served in various China Towns, Japan. In Hakodate with a China Town, Yowaken (養和軒) served the Nanking noodles in 1884. In Sapporo, it is a root of Sapporo Ramen that a noodle soup dish was cooked by Mr. Wang Wen Zai (王 文彩), a chief chef of Takeya Shokudo (竹家食堂), in 1922. Houran (芳蘭), a branch of the Takeya Shokudo, opened a business in 1933 in Asahikawa. Asahikawa Ramen, Sapporo Ramen and Hakodate Ramen called the 3 Major Ramen in Hokkaido were born. Ramen with Seafood in Thick Starchy Sauce
Since I heard that Ramen with Seafood in Thick Starchy Sauce (広東麺) was tasty, I visited here around 14:00 on a weekday. 1 customer enjoyed his meal at that time. Then another one came in. I heard their conversation, and they looked regular customers. This restraunt was loved by local people. Because there was not a parking lot, they stopped their cars in front of the restraunt. I sat a table seat, and ordered the Ramen with Seafood in Thick Starchy Sauce. The price was JPY 890. By the way, it was also written as Noodles with Hop Suey on a menu.
While I was waiting for the ramen, I heard a sound to toss ingredients in the wok from a kitchen. Rhythmical metallic sound played by an experienced owner was comfortable. About10 minutes later, the ramen was served. Noodles was topped with thick starchy sauce. Soup and the thick starchy sauce were separated completely. Not much thick starchy sauce contained pork, seafood such as shrimp, whelk and cuttlefish, and vegetables such as bean sprouts, onions, cloud ear mushroom and spinach.
The light taste soup was soy sauce broth, and had a good flavor. It was tasty! I recommend that light taste lovers eat this. The noodles were homemade noodles, and went well with the soup. The old taste of the long-established restaurant was very mild and tasty. By the way, the restraunt provided a silver large spoon, not a china spoon. Most of Japanese eat the ramen soup with a china spoon, so it is interesting for me. Thanks for the tasty ramen!
