[Ukifune in Honbetsu] Large and Tasty Pork Steak

Ukifune

Ukifune (浮舟) is a long-established restraunt founded in 1965 in Honbetsu town located in the northeastern part of Obihiro city, and is near Roadside Station Stella Honbetsu. Mr. Makoto Sumi (角 誠) is a restraunt owner. The restaurant was given the Bib Gourmand by MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition and 2017 Special Edition. This restaurant is famous for large pork steak, and Ms. Kon recommended this restraunt, so I visited here. Lunchtime is from 11:30 to 14:00, and dinnertime is from 17:00 to 19:00. Sunday is a regular closing day.

The restraunt with a good old atomosphere such as a local Japanese restraunt is not very large. Counter seats and small separate Japanese style rooms are provided, so I guess that even family customers enjoy meals.

I was not in time for the lunchtime, so I visited here at dinnertime. To my delight it opened 5 minutes before their opening hour. I sat at a small separate Japanese style room, and ordered the pork steak (とんてき) immediately. The price was JPY 1,700. Except it, they serve some set meals, rice bowls, curry and rice and so on.

While preparing for cooking, I asked the owner about the large pork steak. He replied me "It is the size that customers can eat the pork steak deliciously. Tasty is very important". He said successively "A certain woman ate 2 lumps of garlic pork steaks (にんにく焼き)". I guess that it was not an extremely large size so that people said.

About 25 minutes later, the pork steak was served. Indeed, it was very large pork. The pork had thickness of about 3 cm and length of about 12 cm. I felt tasty smell with burnt demiglace sauce. The pork steak was cooked medium. Meat juice came out, and pork was tender. Unexpectedly, It was not fatty, and was light taste. 40 years passed after he succeed to the restraunt. This taste seemed to spread among the world for about 10 years. By the word of mouth of motorcycle touring riders, high reputation spreads over.
