La Locanda Del Pittore Toya
La Locanda Del Pittore Toya (ラ・ロカンダ・デル・ピットーレ洞爺) is a popular Italian restaurant on a small hill around Lake Toya (洞爺湖) in Toyako town. The restaurant was given the Bib Gourmand by MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2017 Special Edition. A building is at the foot of The Windsor Hotels Toya Resort & Spa, and a gondola lift station to The Windsor Hotels Toya Resort & Spa and Lake Toya Ranch that visitors can get on horses are near the building. In 2019, their name was renamed as Cielo stellato Windsor. An article before changing their name is as follows.
The La Locanda Del Pittore Toya is a sister restraunt of the famous Italian restaurant "PIZZERIA La locanda del pittore (ピッツェリア ラ・ロカンダ・デル・ピットーレ)" in Niigata. The Windsor Hotels Toya Resort & Spa cooperated with PIZZERIA La locanda del pittore in 2003, and they started a business. A lot of trees are used for the stone building such as a workshop of craftsman in the Middle Ages, and it has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. A gelato shop called "gelateria" is on the 2nd floor, and the La Locanda Del Pittore is on the 3rd floor.
The restraunt is large enough, and counter seats and table seats are provided, so I guess that even family customers and a large number of customers enjoy meals. I visited here around 11:30 on a weekday. Because they finished their busy seasons, there were few visitors. A waiter shown a window seat that Lake Toya could be seen.
Lake Toya (洞爺湖) between Toyako town and Sobetsu town located in the northwestern part of Muroran city is the 3rd largest caldera lake in Japan after Lake Kussharo and Lake Shikotsu, and was born by large-scale eruptions 110,000 years ago. In Shikotsu-Toya National Park, the perimeter of the lake is about 43 km, and 58 sculptures are located around the lake, and those create scenes in accord with the lake. Geographical features of mountains and the lake have been authorized in the World Geopark. The lake is one of major tourist attractoions in Hokkaido, and a lot of international tourists come. Windsor Hotels Toya Resort & Spa that 34th G8 Summit (Hokkaido Toyako Summit) was held at is famous, too. Around the Lake Toya, there are Toyako Onsen Resort (洞爺湖温泉) that is a sightseeing base, Toya Silo Observation Deck (サイロ展望台), Ukimido Park (浮見堂公園), Toya Onsen (洞爺温泉), Nakatoya Onsen (仲洞爺温泉), Nakatoya Camping Ground (仲洞爺キャンプ場), Green Stay Toyako (グリーンステイ洞爺湖), Takarada Camping Ground (水辺の里財田キャンプ場), Sobetsu-cho Onsen (壮瞥町温泉), Mt. Showa-shinzan (昭和新山) and Mt. Usu (有珠山). Article is here
Shikotsu-Toya National Park
Shikotsu-Toya National Park (支笏洞爺国立公園) has Lake Shikotsu (支笏湖), the 2nd largest caldera lake in Japan, and Lake Toya (洞爺湖), the 3rd largest caldera lake in the Japan, in the southwestern part of Hokkaido. In the national park, there are unique mountains such as Mt. Usu (有珠山), Mt. Tarumae (樽前山) and Mt. Showa-shinzan (昭和新山), and here is a tourist attraction on behalf of Hokkaido containing Noboribetsu Onsen (登別温泉) and Jozankei Onsen (定山渓温泉) in the 3 major onsen in the Hokkaido. Because it is easy to access the tourist attracions from New Chitose Airport and Sapporo city, the Shikotsu-Toya National Park gets popularity from tourists. The Shikotsu-Toya National Park is roughly divided into 5 areas, Yoteizan Area, Toyako Area, Noboribetsu Area, Shikotsuko Area and Jozankei Area. The area is 99,473 ha in total, it is very vast. It blows my mind why it adds the Yoteizan Area and the Jozankei Area, but I googled it, but I could not find. Article is here
I asked the waiter about restaurant's recommendation while reading a menu at once, He replied me "Pittore". But Marinara Pizza (マリナーラ) looked tasty. so I ordered it for one person sized pizza. The price was JPY 2209. By the way, the Marinara means "Sailor's" in Italian, so it is Sailor's Pizza. It is a pizza using Marinara Sauce often eaten by sailors in Napoli.
While I was waiting the grilled pizza at a firewood kiln, grissini and water were served. I looked over the Lake Toya while eating the grissini. It was a nice scenery to all the rave reviews it got.
About 15 minutes later, the Marinara Pizza was served. Its diameter was about 30 cm. Tomato sauce was spreaded over on the pizza with about 5 mm in thickness, and it was topped with anchovy or garlic paste, and smelled nice.
First I ate a slice of the pizza. The pizza was chewy. The tomato sauce went well with the salty anchovy. It was tasty!
Then I added Tabasco to my pizza, and ate it. I prefered a little hotter than standard. I enjoyed the Marinara Pizza. Thanks for the tasty pizza!
