Otofuke Tokachigawa Swan Festival Sairinka (十勝川白鳥まつり彩凛華) is a winter event in Otofuke town located in the northeastern part of Obihiro city, and has been held since 1992, and was named after more than 1000 swans coming flying to Tokachigawa Onsen (十勝川温泉). About 60,000 tourists come to see the event. Open period is from mid January to late February, and it opens from 19:00 to 21:00 everyday. The event might be cancelled due to bad weather, so you should check it in advance. The venue is Tokachigaoka Park (十勝が丘公園). Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge.
Tokachigawa Onsen (十勝川温泉) is a famous hot-spring resort in Otofuke town located in the eastern part of Obihiro city, and is called a back room of Obihiro (帯広の奥座敷), and about 0.6 million visitors come every year. It is popular for enjoying moor hot springs (モール温泉) . Nowadays the moor spring can be enjoyed in various places in Hokkaido, but when the existence of the moor spring was recognized first, There were only 2 places, the Tokachigawa Onsen and Baden-Baden in Germany in the world. Therefore, the moor spring has became a synonym for the Tokachigawa Onsen. The moor spring was coined a word on the basis of the Tokachigawa Onsen. Tokachigaoka Observatoion Deck (十勝が丘展望台) and White Birch Avenue at Tokachi Ranch (十勝牧場白樺並木) are relatively close to the Tokachigawa Onsen and views can be enjoyed in a winter, too. A powerful horse trainig at the Tokachi Ranch is popular, too.
White Birch Avenue at Tokachi Ranch
White Birch Avenue is at an entrance of Domestic Animal Improvement Center Tokachi Ranch (十勝牧場の白樺並木) in Otofuke town located in the northern part of Obihiro city. 567 white birches seem to line up for about 1.3 km among green grass. Because a scenery is beautiful, it has been used as location sites for many movies and tv dramas. There is the Tokachi Ranch Observatory (十勝牧場展望台) near the white birch avenue. By the way, a direct bus "Moor Spring-go (モール温泉号)" between the Tokachigawa Onsen and Sapporo runs only in an autumn, but unfortunately, visitors can not get the bus in the winter. The highlight is the light and sound show using the trigonal pyramid shaped objects. About 290 large and small trigonal pyramid shaped objects containing 5.4 m height the largest trigonal pyramid shaped objects are built, and about 600 light are flashed colorfully, and the visitors can not help getting excited because those lights are glittered colorfully mached with musics, and can enjoy fantastic views from the viewing platform or on the snowy ground freely.
