Tokachi Coast Wetlands Group
Tokachi Coast Wetlands Group (十勝海岸湖沼群) is a group of wetlands spreading over in the southeastern part of Tokachi District. I do not know exactly where the extent of the Tokachi Coast Wetlands Group is. It is said that Yudo Swamp (湧洞沼), Choubushi Swamp (長節沼), Oikamanai Swamp (生花苗沼), Horokayanto Swamp (ホロカヤント沼), Kimontou Swamp (キモントウ沼), Kimontou-konuma Swamp (キモントウ小沼) and Touen Wetland (当縁湿原) are between Toyokoro town and Taiki town. The group of the wetlands has been chosen as one of 500 Important Wetlands in Japan (日本の重要湿地500), and is a site proposed for the Ramsar Convention Wetland, so people say that it is a paradise for wild flowers and wild birds. About 200 types of the wild birds are observed here. I also encountered Japanese cranes. Because those wetlands do not become tourist attractions, it is said that the group of the wetlands is a little-known spot that tourists can enjoy nature calmly. Therefore, those places are not accessible by public transportations unfortunately. Read More
Look of Oikamanai Swamp
I visited around the Taiki-cho B&G Marine Center. Brown water of the swamp caught my eyes. The Taiki-cho B&G Marine Center is not a sightseeing facility, so ordinary people are not allowed to enter. I think that tourists can see a good view only at the lakeshore. A conbination of grass and the swamp is beautiful.
Atmosphere of Oikamanai Swamp Can Be Watched on Youtube
I visited the Wild Birdwatching Failcity in September, 2019. About 160 types of wild birds can be watched around the Oikamanai Swamp, and it is said that the swamp is suit for bird-watching. A parking lot is along Forest Road Oikamanai Line (林道生花苗線). The distance from the parking lot to the Wild Birdwatching Failcity is about 200 m. A lot of mosquitoes flew in the air, so visitors had better bring a mosquito repellent. The Wild Birdwatching Failcity looks like a resting place, and it is surrounded by trees. Unfortunately, the swamp dose not come into sight. A path to the lakeside is built, so the Oikamanai Swamp can be seen on the lakeside. When I visited here on that day, the swamp had a little water, and a lot of wild birds flew.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
