Obihiro (帯広) that about 170,000 people live is the 6th largest commercial city in Hokkaido, and is one of regional hub cities of the Eastern Hokkaido area. It has flourished as the center of the Tokachi district. The Obihiro is also a stockyard for agricultural products in whole Tokachi district, and Potato, Beet, Wheat and Chinese Yam are famous as a local product. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 30 degrees in a summer, and it is cold that temperature falls to nearly -20 degrees in a winter. It has a large temperature gap, but it has less snow relatively in the Hokkaido. Therefore skating is popular in the winter. Mr. Hiroyasu Shimizu, an olympic gold medalist, come from the Obihiro, and there is much competition population of the skating.
The Obihiro is an unique city in the Hokkaido, and has a lot of charms. Founded places of Rygetsu and Rokkatei, ones of most popular confectioneries in the Hokkaido, is the Obihiro, and it is famous as a town to eat tasty sweets, too. Their sweets using fresh ingredients produced in the Tokachi become popular nationalwide. In addition, dishes using the fresh ingredients produced in the Tokachi are well-known for tasty dishes, too, and Pork Rice Bowl (豚丼) born in the Obihiro can be savored all over the hokkaido. As for a local dish only in the Obihiro, Chinese Chirashi (中華チラシ) is famous. By the way, Hassun (八寸) is given 1-star by Michelin Hokkaido, and Shunkaro (春香楼), Tonkastu Miyabi (とんかつ雅), Tonta (豚丼のトン太), Petit Plaisir (プチ・プレジール), Mariyonnu (マリヨンヌ) and the Robata Uosen (炉端魚千) are given bib gourmand by the Michelin Hokkaido.
The Obihiro has various types of tourist attractions, so those never bore tourists. For example, Obihiro Banei Horse Racing (帯広ばんえい競馬), the only horse racing style in the world, is held, and a typical view of the Hokkaido can be seen at Yachiyo Ranch (八千代牧場), and Midorigaoka Park (緑ヶ丘公園) that is famous for 400 m-length bench ever placed in the Guinness World Records has Green Park (グリーンパーク), Obihiro Zoo (帯広動物園), Obihiro Museum of Art (帯広美術館), Obihiro Centennial Memorial Museum (百年記念館) and Obihiro Wild Flower Garden (野草園). Although the Obihiro is a regional urban center in the Hokkaido, It is an unusual city that brown moor hot springs gush out in the downtown that about 170,000 people live. Speaking of the moor hot springs, Tokachigawa Onsen (十勝川温泉) in Otofuke beside the Obihiro is famous, but the moor hot springs can be enjoyed in the various places of the Tokachi.
