Nissho Pass 1st Observation Deck (日勝峠第1展望台) is a viewing point at about 750 m above sea level in Shimizu town located in the northwestern part of Obihiro city, and is near Lookout Restaurant Tokachitei (展望レストランとかち亭). The viewing point is along National Route 274, and is known as a good palce to view Tokachi Plain (十勝平野). It is said that the sunrise and a starry sky look beautiful. The sea clouds sometimes appear from June to July, and a marvelous view can be seen. A observation deck, a parking lot and a public restroom are built at the site. Admission free. Speaking of the Shimizu, some restaurants serve Diced Steak and Scrambled Eggs Rice Bowl (牛玉ステーキ丼), a local dish. I ate it at Restaurant Fusha (レストラン風車), and it was tasty. As for tasty restaurants in the Shimizu, Mebunryo (目分料), Sobadokoro Mishina (そば処 三品), Tonkatsu-no-Mishina (とんかつのみしな), Sobadokoro Noshijuku (そば処 農志塾), Drive-in Ito Tokachi Shimizu Head Office (ドライブインいとう とかち清水本店) and Horyu Shimizu Branch (寶龍 清水店) are popular in particular. Unfortunately, a day trip onsen can not be enjoyed in the Shimizu.

Diced Steak and Scrambled Eggs Rice Bowl

I visited here to eat Diced Steak and Scrambled Eggs Rice Bowl (十勝清水牛玉ステーキ丼) around 15:00 on a weekday. No customer enjoyed their meal. I sat at a table seat, and ordered the Diced Steak and Scrambled Eggs Rice Bowl. The price was JPY 980. The Diced Steak and Scrambled Eggs Rice Bowl is a local gourmet born on July 17, 2010 in the Shimizu. It won consecutive victories in Local Gourmet Grand Prix Hokkaido (新・ご当地グルメグランプリ北海道) 2013 and 2014. Some restaurants in the Shimizu serve it. Read More

In case of entering the parking lot, drive safe because it is near a blind U-shaped curve. An entrance of the observation deck is at the mountain side of the parking lot. The large observation deck comes into sight after going up steps, and a gazebo, a swing bell monument, a a poem monument engraved with the writings of Bokujin Takakura (高倉牧人句碑) and a mountain god shrine are built there.

The Tokachi Plain and mountain views such as Hidaka Mountains (日高山脈) can be seen from the observation deck. In addition, the National Route that the traffic is heavy is below visitors' eyes, so they can see truck drivers' driving skill. By the way, the swing bell monument does not ring bells.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
