[Nigorikawa Onsen in Mori] Day Trip Onsen Can Be Enjoyed at Caldera
CONTENTS
Nigorigawa Onsen
Nigorigawa Onsen (濁川温泉) is a hot-spring place in Mori town located the northern direction of Hakodate city. The basin is named Nigorigawa Caldera (濁川カルデラ) with a diameter of 2 km, and the Nigorigawa Onsen is like a hidden village surrounded by mountains. Active volcanic activity continues on the Nigorigawa Caldera, so only geothermal plant in Hokkaido is built. There are almost fields on the caldera, and vegetables are grown with using hot springs, and and common people use the hot springs at each family. Around 200 hot spring wells are built, and water vapors rise here and there. Hothouse vegetables such as Tomato and Cucumber with using hot springs are local speciality.

The beginning of the Nigorigawa Onsen is not clear, but it has been used as a hot-spring place for cure since a long time, and a statue of Yakushi Nyorai (薬師如来像) dedicated in 1798 exists at present. After that, Mr. Hanzaemon Kagaya (加賀屋半左衛門) open Kuma-no-Yu (熊の湯) or Kagaya Onsen (加賀屋温泉) that is the predecessor of MotoYu Shinsenkan as a hot-spring place for cure in 1807, and it is a basis for the Nigorigawa Onsen. 7 small-sized hot spring facilities in total are built on the fields at present. There are not a large onsen accommodation, and the hot-spring place has an atmosphere such as good-old hot-spring place for cure. Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built. The types of the hot springs are different depending on the hot spring facilities, and almost hot spring facilities use 100% natural free flowing hot springs. But the overall hot spring facilities are not new, so people liking new facilities may not be suitable for the hot spring facilities. Nonstop buses do not run from the Nigorigawa Onsen to Sapporo or Hakodate.

List of Day Trip Onsen
Visitors can take a day trip bath at Shineikan (新栄館), Goshiki-no-Yu (五色の湯), Caldera Onsen Fureai-no-Sato (カルデラ温泉ふれあいの里), Onsen Ryokan Chuo-so (温泉旅館中央荘), MotoYu Shinsenkan Nikori-no-Yu (元湯新泉館 にこりの湯), Onsen Ryokan Tenyu (温泉旅館天湯) and Onsen Ryokan Mikanseni (温泉旅館美完成).

Shineikan
Shineikan is a small-sized long-established onsen ryokan founded in 1900, and is a little far from Hokkaido Road 778. A building passed for nearly 100 years, and the appearance and the interior decoration are quite shibui. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 450. They have 2 buildings, Old Building and New Building. A staying is possible, too, and it seems to stay a new building. A public bathhouse for men is a mixed bathing bath on the 1st basement of Old Building, and a public bathhouse for women is at New Building. The bathhouse for women is relatively new, so the bathhouse for men is popular for women, too. I think that women is hard to take a bath while men take a bath, so enjoy the shibui indoor baths if men do not take a bath at the bathhouse for men.

The bathhouse for men has been used for 100 years, too, and hot spring ingredients have precipitated on bathtubs and a floor of the bathhouse, and these are petrified. Fresh hot springs flow freely, and the floor changes to a river. That is amazing! In Japan, it will be a few onsen that there is the natural world at the bathhouse.

There are 3 indoor baths at the public bathhouse for men, and those indoor baths different in water temperature. The indoor bath with the hotest spring is the size that about 3 people can take a bath. The hottest spring was considerable hot, and I was not able to take a bath. Therefore I regulated temperature with water from a hose. Because modern bathing facilities are not installed, bathers may feel inconvenience, but the indoor baths are full of freshness and surprising. The others are the size that 1 pesron can take a bath, and the water temperature is suitable for bathing. A shower is not installed at the bathroom, so you must pour the hot springs on yourself to rinse off your surface dirt and sweat before entering the bath.

The hot springs are sodium chloride bicarbonate spring, and are a little opaque and light green and have a little salty taste and a little oil smell. Shampoos and soaps are not provided at the bathhouse, too. Because there is not a restroom at a dressing room, you should get a wash beforehand at the restroom along a corridor.

[Closed Business] Goshiki-no-Yu
Goshiki-no-Yu (五色の湯) is a small-sized onsen ryokan along Hokkaido Road 778 in the center of the Nigorigawa Onsen. They do not accept reservations for rooms at present. An okami is going into hospital, so her daughter manages the ryokan. But she is working on weekdays, and it opens a business for almost Saturday, Sunday, and National holiday. It is an opening sign that a gray vehicle parks on the side of the building. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 300. Unfortunately, they closed down their business.

A public bathroom is a reserved bathing, and is not so large. But 100% natural free flowing hot springs are overflowing from bathtubs, and hot spring ingredients are piled up on the floor and the surface of the bathtubs, and those are very good feeling. I guess that onsen power is strong.

There are 2 indoor baths at the public bathroom. The one is the semicircular bathtub, and is the size that about 4 people can take a bath. The other is the rectangle bathtub, and is the size that a person can take a bath. This bathtub is nearer a hot spring source than another one, so the hot spring is too hot. Oil slick is formed on the surface of the hot springs. But she told me "Please do not enter the small indoor bath because it is not cleaned".

The hot springs are sulfur and sodium calcium bicarbonate chloride spring, and are opaque and light green and have metallic taste and oil smell. The hot spring seemed to be drinkable, so those tasted like mud, and seemed to be effective for Chronic digestive diseases, Chronic constipation, Diabetes, Gout, Liver disease and Constipation. Shampoos and body soaps for visitors are not provided at the bathroom, the visitors have to bring those. A shower is broken, so you must pour the hot springs on yourself to rinse off your surface dirt and sweat before entering the bath. There is not a restroom at a dressing room, so you should get a wash beforehand at the restroom at a corridor.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
