Nibushi Onsen
Nibushi Onsen (仁伏温泉) is a hot spring place in Teshikaga town located in the northern direction of Kushiro city. The hot spring gushes out at the lakeshore in the eastern part of Lake Kussharo (屈斜路湖) in Akan Mashu National Park, and it is one of hot spring places around the Lake Kussharo. Nibushihoyojo (仁伏保養所) and Kussharoko Hotel (屈斜路湖ホテル) are built on the shore of the Lake Kussharo, and Kussharoko-so (屈斜路湖荘) is built along Hokkaido Road 52. The distance is about 4 km away from Kawayu Onsen (川湯温泉), and restraunts, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built.

Lake Kussharo
The Lake Kussharo is the largest caldera lake in Japan in Teshikaga town located in the northeastern part of Lake Akan (阿寒湖), and its shape tuend into the current shape by large-scale eruptions 40,000 years ago. Before then, the lake was larger round lake than the current lake. It is the 2nd largest caldera lake in the world after Lake Toba in Indonesia, too. In Akan Mashu National Park, The perimeter of the lake is about 57 km, and the maximum depth is 117 m, and Nakashima (中島), the largest island on the fresh water lake in the Japan, flotas on the surface of the lake, but landing is prohibited. It is the origin of the Nibushi Onsen that Mr. Seiji Asano (浅野清次) built an onsen hut in 1898. A type of the hot spring is simple hot spring that is almost same as other hot spring gushing out on the shore of the Lake Kussharo, and taste is mild, and the hot springs clinging itself to the body has a fine texture. I think it is very interesting that the Nibushin Onsen has characteristics different from the Kawayu Onsen with sour irritation hot springs because of only a little far away. There are the Kawayu Onsen, Sanko Onsen (三香温泉), Sunayu Onsen (砂湯温泉), Wakoto Onsen (和琴温泉), Kotan Onsen (コタン温泉) and Ike-no-Yu Onsen (池の湯) around the Nibushi Onsen, and various natural open-air baths can be enjoyed throughout the year. Cherry blossoms can be enjoyed in a spring, Fresh green and the canoe can be enjoyed in a summer, fall foliage can be enjoyed in an autumn, and whooper swans can be watched in a winter.
Akan Mashu National Park
Akan Mashu National Park (阿寒摩周国立公園) has Lake Kussharo (屈斜路湖), the largest caldera lake in Japan, Lake Mashu (摩周湖), the 6th largest caldera lake in the Japan, and Lake Akan (阿寒湖), the 7th largest caldera lake in the Japan, in the eastern part of Hokkaido, and the oldest national park in Hokkaido along with Daisestuzan National Park (大雪山国立公園) in the north part of Kushiro-Sitsugen National Park (釧路湿原国立公園), too. In the national park, there are unique mountains such as Mt. Oakandake (雄阿寒岳), Mt. Meakandake (雌阿寒岳), Mt. Akanfuji (阿寒富士), Mt. Mokoto (藻琴山), Mt. Iou (硫黄山), Mt. Mashudake (摩周岳) and Mt. Nishibetsudake (西別岳), and here is a tourist attraction on behalf of Hokkaido containing some hot spring places such as Akanko Onsen (阿寒湖温泉), Meakan Onsen (雌阿寒温泉) and Kawayu Onsen (川湯温泉). The Akan Mashu National Park is roughly divided into 4 areas, Akanko Area, Onneto Area, Mashuko Area, and Kussharoko Area. The area is 91,413 ha in total, it is very vast. It is a highlight that a scenery was borned by growing forests and lakes created by water collecting in the craters of volcanoes after the volcanoes erupting in the primitive period, and it is said that an original scenery of Hokkaido has been creadted by "Volcanos", "Forests" and "Lakes". By the way, 900 Sogen Grassland (900草原) and Tawadaira Observaton Deck (多和平展望台) that a typical secenry of Hokkaido can be enjoyed are relatively near the national park, too. Read More

Walking on the bath floor is comfortable because the bath floor is always warm.

The small quadrate open-air bath is the size that about 3 people take a bath. It is surrounded by blindfols fences, so a view is not good. But a net avoiding fallen leaves is covered with the bath, so the surface of the bath is kept clean. Bathers can enjoy the cool air and bathing.

The tiled bathroom is small but cozy, and was steamy on that day. The large windows are on the lake side, and the Lake Kussharo can be seen through the windows. The tiled indoor bath is the size that about 10 people take a bath. Pebbles, a well‐known product of the Nibushi Onsen, are spreaded all over on the bottom of the bath. 100% fresh free flowing hot springs are poured into the bath, and the hot springs are overflowing from the bath. I like seeing it. I supposed that water temperature was about 43 C. It is just suitable for bathing.

A plastic cup was near a hot spring gushing out point, so I drinked the hot springs, and it tasted mild. But I do not know whether or not the hot springs are drinkable. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathroom. There is not a restroom at the dressing room, so you should get a wash beforehand at the restroom of a corridor.

The distance is about 5 m away between the lake and the popular open-air bath, so the lake view can be enjoyed nearby the bath. It is the size that about 4 people take a bath. Of course, the pebbles are spreaded all over on the bottom of the bath, too. On that day, the bath was not surrounded by wooden blindfols fences yet, so a sense of openess was felt very much. A Japanese wagtail perched on the branch, and looked at me. Nature is rich.

The shampoos and the body soaps are not provided, so the male bathers had better wash their body at the bathroom for men beforehand. There is not a restroom at the dressing room of the open-air bath, so you should get a wash beforehand at the restroom of a corridor. The hot springs are simple hot spring, and are clear and colorless and have neither taste and nor smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.812 g/kg. Both baths use 100% natural free flowing hot springs. A free hair dryer and drinking water at a tank are set at a washplace along the corridor.

[Closed Down] Nibushihoyojo
Nibushihoyojo is a small-sized long-established onsen ryokan founded in 1930 on the shore of Lake Kussharo, and is famous for a bathtub with spreaded pebbles all over on the bottom. The interior decoration has an atomosphere of Showa period, and it is very Shibui. An entrance fee to the bath facility is JPY 500. A staying is possible, too. Unfortunately, They have been closed a business since 2015.

There is 1 indoor bath at a public bathroom. The tiled bathroom is small but cozy, and the Lake Kussharo can be seen through a window. I think that wash places is like those of my school. A partition catch bathers's eyes first. The bath used to be mixed bathing. The bath made of Japanese Yew is the size that about 10 people can take a bath, and uses 100% natural free flowing hot springs.

Pebbles that spread all over the bottom of the bathtub were too beautiful, and I felt as if I became a carp for admiration. The free flowing hot springs always pour in a bathtub, and overflow from it in succession, and it is comfortable. In addition, the pebbles stimulated my soles. Unhealthy people should considerably have a pain in their soles. My soles were really hurt.

The hot springs are simple hot spring, and are clear and colorless and have neither taste and nor smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.747 g/kg. Because they does not get a permission of the public health center, the hot springs are not drinkable, but an owner seems to drink the hot springs, and those are very fresh. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathroom. A free hair dryer is installed at a dressing room. Because there is not a restroom at the dressing room, you should get a wash beforehand at the restroom at a corridor.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
