[Genghis Khan Shirakaba Head Office in Obihiro] Secret Sauce and Tender Grilled Sheep Meats Are Very Tasty

Genghis Khan Shirakaba (ジンギスカン白樺) is a popular mongolian barbecue restraunt founded in 1957, and the head office is in Kiyokawa-cho, Obihiro city. Mr. Toshio Sakuma (佐久間 俊男) is a company president now. The restraunt is considerably far from the downtown of the Obihiro, and has a brach restraunt in Furano. A lot of people come to eat their mongolian barbecue, and a line sometimes is formed. The both wodden buildings look new, so I guess that visitors can enjoy meals.
I visited the head office. Their opening hour is 11:00. 1 group preceding visitor lined up in front of the restraunt when I visited here at 11:00 on a weekday. I was able to enter the restraunt without lining up. Customers often line up on weekend and national holidays. The interior decoration has the warmth of woods and cleanliness, and all seats are table seats, and there are 2 types tables, so customers sit a seat after taking off their shoes or sit a seat without taking off their shoes. I suppose that family customers also enjoy meals.

Obihiro (帯広) that about 170,000 people live is the 6th largest commercial city in Hokkaido, and is one of regional hub cities of the Eastern Hokkaido area. It has flourished as the center of the Tokachi district. The Obihiro is also a stockyard for agricultural products in whole Tokachi district, and Potato, Beet, Wheat and Chinese Yam are famous as a local product. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 30 degrees in a summer, and it is cold that temperature falls to nearly -20 degrees in a winter. It has a large temperature gap, but it has less snow relatively in the Hokkaido. Therefore skating is popular in the winter. Mongolian Barbecue of Hokkaido
Genghis Khan (ジンギスカン * Mongolian barbecue) is one of the most famous local dishes of Hokkaido, and is a dish to grill sheep meats and vegetables, and is called the comfort food of Hokkaido people. Except the Hokkaido, the Genghis Khan is also a familiar local dish in a part of Iwate Prefecture or Nagano Prefecture. The reason why the Hokkaido is closely related to the mongolian barbecue is that 5 national sheep breeding ranches were built in Takikawa (滝川), Tsukisamu (月寒), Tomobe (友部) in Ibaraki Prefecture, Hojo (北条) in Ehime Prefecture and Kumamoto (熊本) after Japanese goverment declared a production increase of wool in Meiji period. In those days, Japanese had no custom of eating meat, and did not like the taste since the sheep meats had unique taste. But the Genghis Khan is one of devised dishes for using the sheep meats as well as the wool without being wasted. Indeed, the sheep meats are different from beef and pork, and have the unique taste, so it has people divided between those that like it and those that hate it. I took my shoes, and sat a table seat, and read a menu. I ordered a single serving of raw mutton and raw lamb. The prices were JPY 500 and JPY 650. As for the sheep meats, they serve only 2 types of the sheep meats, so I think that they will be confident of quality of the sheep meats and barbecue sauce. They also serve rice and Kimchi.
A mongolian barbecue pan on a table is Tsukisamu-style. They serve raw sheep meats instead of Takigawa style (sheep meats in sauce). After waiting for about 3 minutes, the sheep meats with sliced onions on a wooden plate were served. The cheep meats soaked in their secret sauce are cut into bite-size chunks, and are easy to eat. I grilled those on the pan.
After grilling for about 5 minutes, good smell were in the air. I ate it immediately after dipping it into the barbecue seauce. It was very tender and was delicious! What should be noted was the barbecue sauce made from apples and onions. That was sweet with garlic flavor, and was very tasty! I had a good appetite. I think that most of restaurants with tasty barbecue seauce have a good reputation.
