[Utafue Shrine in Mitsuishi, Shinhidaka] 4 Types of Cherry Blossoms Can Be Enjoyed at Garden of Gods
Utafue Shrine (歌笛神社) is a shinto shrine on about 75 m altitude small hill in Mitsuishi, Shinhidaka town located in the northwestern part of Cape Erimo (えりも岬), and Utafue Preschool (歌笛保育園) is built at the foot of the hill. The shrine was established in 1983, and moved here in 1902. Amaterasu-Omikami (天照大神 * the God of the sun), Hakusanhime-no-Kami (白山比賣神) and Kumano-Omikami (熊野大神) are enshrined. The Utafue Shrine is a famous place for cherry blossoms in Hidaka district, too, and cherry trees such as Double Cherry (ヤエザクラ), Yezo Mountain Cherry (エゾヤマザクラ), Yoshino Cherry (ソメイヨシノ) and Weeping Cherry (枝垂れ桜) grow at the site. The best time to see the cherry blossoms is about from early May to mid May. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge.
A main shrine (本殿), a war memorial monument (戦没者慰霊碑), a bato kannon (馬頭観音) and memorial monuments (周年碑) are built at the site. Except an approach to the shrine with stone steps, a narrow mountain road is provided, too, and visitors can go up to the main shrine by their cars. But drive carefully. A gazobo and a public restroom are also built around the parking lot. By the way, Mitsuishi Onsen (三石温泉) is relatively near here.
Mitsuishi Onsen (三石温泉) is a hot spring place in Shinhidaka town located in the southeastern part of Tomakomai city. Mitsuishi Konbu Onsen Kurazo (三石昆布温泉 蔵三) is built between Urakawa National Route (浦河国道 * National Route 235) and the Pacific Ocean, and is adjacent to roadside station "Mitsuishi (三石)", and there is Mitsuishi Coast Park (三石海浜公園) near here, and toursists can swim in the sea, and Mitsuishi Coast Park Auto Campsite (三石海浜公園オートキャンプ場) and bungalows are built, too. There is Meiji Ranch in the other side of the roadside station across National Route 235, and race horses and ponies are put out to pasture. Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes and convenience stores are not built around here. It is the origin of the Mitsuishi Onsen that Mitsuishi Onsen Elderly Citizens' Welfare Center (三石温泉老人福祉センター) opened a business in 1979 at another place, and it was shutted down in 2005. The Mitsuishi Konbu Onsen Kurazo has opened a business at current location. Article is here

Cherry Blossoms of Utafue Shrine
The site is not so large. Some cherry trees bloom along the approach to the shrine and the mountain road, and some cherry trees bloom near the main building, so the cherry tree are relatively small. But the shrine with a solemn atmosphere goes well with pink cherry blossoms, and I can imagine as if gods enjoyed a cherry-blossom viewing party. A conbination of a view from the top of the hill and the cherry blossoms is good, and the visitors feel comfortable. Few visitors come, so they can savor the cherry blossoms to the full.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
