Mitsuishi Onsen

Mitsuishi Onsen (三石温泉) is a hot spring place in Shinhidaka town located in the southeastern part of Tomakomai city. Mitsuishi Konbu Onsen Kurazo (三石昆布温泉 蔵三) is built between Urakawa National Route (浦河国道 * National Route 235) and the Pacific Ocean, and is adjacent to roadside station "Mitsuishi (三石)", and there is Mitsuishi Coast Park (三石海浜公園) near here, and toursists can swim in the sea, and Mitsuishi Coast Park Auto Campsite (三石海浜公園オートキャンプ場) and bungalows are built, too. There is Meiji Ranch in the other side of the roadside station across National Route 235, and race horses and ponies are put out to pasture. Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes and convenience stores are not built around here. It is the origin of the Mitsuishi Onsen that Mitsuishi Onsen Elderly Citizens' Welfare Center (三石温泉老人福祉センター) opened a business in 1979 at another place, and it was shutted down in 2005. The Mitsuishi Konbu Onsen Kurazo has opened a business at current location.

Famous tourist attractions around the Mitsuishi Onsen are some great places for the cherry blossom viewing such as Nijukkendouro Sakuranamiki (静内二十間道路桜並木), Yushun Sakura Road (優駿さくらロード) and Mitsuishi Utafue Shrine (三石歌笛神社), so the tourists should visit those in a spring. Other famous tourist attractions are Racing Horse Guide center Hidaka Branch (競走馬のふるさと日高案内所), Mautayama Observatory (真歌山展望台) and Mt. Horai (蓬莱山). The Shinhidaka is well-known as a thoroughbred horse production place, and a ranch tour is popular, too. Speaking of tasty restaurants in the Shinhidaka, Amaya (あま屋), Kirin (喜輪) and Restraunt "Hatago" (レストラン 旅篭) are popular in particular. I ate ramen noodle at Ryouka. It was so tasty.

Nijukkendouro Sakuranamiki

Nijukkendouro Sakuranamiki (二十間道路桜並木) is a scenic area in Shizunai, Shinhidaka town located in the southeastern of Tomakomai city. "ken" of Nijukkendouro is old basic unit and 20 ken are a road with about 36m in width to convert from ken to meter. Along the straight line road with 7 km in total length, about 3,000 cherry trees including Sargent Cherry (エゾヤマザクラ) and Korean Hill Cherry (カスミザクラ) are in full glory. There is the road called a tunnel of flowers in the sideway with 300 m in length and seems to be filled with cherry blossoms. It is a splendid scenery. Article is here

Yushun Sakura Road

Yushun Sakura Road (優駿さくらロード) in Urakawa is located in the northwestern part of Cape Erimo. About 1000 cherry trees are planted along a road with about 3 km in length from an entrance of Yushun-no-Sato Park (優駿の里公園) to Hidaka Training Ranch (日高育成牧場ま) and the Yushun Sakura Road is a famous place for cherry blossoms in Hidaka, too. Because the width of the road is narrower than Shizunai Nijukkendouro Sakuranamiki (静内二十間道路桜並木), a famous place for cherry blossoms, the Yushun Sakura Road looks like a tunnel of the cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom from early May to mid May, and Urakawa Sakura Festival (浦河桜まつり) is held at that time. The Yushun Sakura Road seems to be lit up in the evening. Admission free. A parking lot is free of charge. Article is here

There are 1 open-air bath, 2 indoor baths, 1 whirlpool bath, 1 cold bath and 1 sauna at a large public bathhouse. The sunny bathhouse with large windows is feeling good. The 2 indoor baths and the whirlpool bath are set beside the windows. The large indoor bath uses heated cold spring. The small indoor bath uses heated water using kelp produced in the Mitsuishi, and it is called Konbu Onsen (昆布湯). I guess only here is the hot springs using kelp in Hokkaido. I never heard of it. The whirlpool bath uses heated water.
