In those days, people must come and go by a ship, and it is hard to access to here, so I think that the Marukoma Onsen has been called "Secret Onsen (秘湯)". Lake Okotanpe called "Secret Lake" is near the Marukoma Onsen, and there are some secrets around here because of a steep land. A road is developed at present, and visitors can go to the Marukoma Onsen by car. But the road is sometimes closed by a natural disasters.

The public bathhouses for men or women are 4 public bathhouses in total, and the public bathhouses for men or women have Natural Onsen Open-air Bath and Large Public Bathhouse. The Natural Onsen Open-air Bath is about 15 -30 m away from a dressing room, and the bathhouse for women is more away than the bathhouse for men. The open-air bath is a representative of the Marukoma Onsen, and is like a secret onsen surrounded by natural trees and rocks. The height of the open-air bath is connected with the surface of the Lake Shikotsu, and the depth of the open-air bath is over 150 cm when the depth is the deepest, and the depth of the open-air bath is less than 30 cm when the depth is the shallowest. Whether or not you feel comfotable depends on seasons and luck. When I took a bath, the depth was 145 cm. The open-air bath truns into a standing bath or a sitting bath depending on the depth. It is the size that about 10 people can take a bath, and the hot springs gush out from the bottom paved with pea gravel, The temperature of the hot springs is regulated with water of the lake Shikotsu. A view that small fishes gather in the Lake Shikotsu in front of the bath can be seen.
