[Maruhira in Kushiro] Light Taste Kushiro Ramen Is Eaten at Long-established Ramen Restaurant
Maruhira (まるひら) is a long-established ramen restaurant founded in 1959 in Urami, Kushiro city, and is near Yonemachi Park (米町公園). Mr. Masao Hirano (平野 正夫) is a ramen restaurant owner at present. The Maruhira is famous for serving traditional Kushiro Ramen, and a lot of local people and tourists come. The ramen restaurant on the 1st floor of a solitary house is not so large, and looks new. Counter seats and table seats are provided, so I guess that even family customers enjoy meals. But a long line may be expected at lunchtime.
By the way, a direct bus does not run between Sapporo or New Chitose Airport and the Kushiro. But highway buses "Star Light Kushiro-go (スターライト釧路号)" and "Kuhsiro Limited Express New Star-go (釧路特急ニュースター号)" run between the Sapporo and the Kushiro, and Sunrise Asahikawa-Kushiro-go (サンライズ旭川・釧路号), an express bus, runs between the Kushiro and Asahikawa, and Sweets Liner-go (スイーツライナー号) runs between Obihiro and Tancho Kushiro Airport, and Senpoku-go (釧北号), an express bus, runs between the Kitami and the Kushiro, and Akan Airport Liner (阿寒エアポートライナー) runs between Lake Akan and the Tancho Kushiro Airport. Besides, Rent-a-car can be rented around Kushiro Station and Kushiro Airport. An airplane flies between Kushiro Airport and Okadama Air Port, and an airplane flies between the Kushiro Airport and New Chitose Airport. As for transport facilities for the Kushiro-Shitsugen Wetland sightseeing, Kushiro-shitsugen train Norokko-go (くしろ湿原ノロッコ号) and Kushiro-shitsugen bus Isshu-go (釧路湿原一周号) run.
Kushiro (釧路) that about 170,000 people live is the 5th largest fisheries city in Hokkaido, and is one of regional hub cities of the Eastern Hokkaido area. The Kushiro became incorporated with Akan town (阿寒) and Onbetsu (音別) in 2005, and has became the 3rd largest city by area in the Hokkaido. In Japan, it is the 7th latgest city by the area. The Kushiro is also well-known as a tourist city with rich nature, and has 2 very famous national parks, Kushiro-Shitsugen wetland (釧路湿原), the largest wetland in the Japan, and Lake Akan (阿寒湖) consisted by primeval forests and lava. In addition, the beautiful sunset can be seen, too, and the Kushiro is one of the three major places to see the beautiful setting sun in the world together with Manila in Philippines and Bali in Indonesia. Ramen of Hokkaido
Ramen is a noodle soup dish topped with ingredients. It is said that Chinese noodles is the root of the ramen, and there are various theories, for example, Mr. Mistukuni Tokugawa (徳川光圀 * Mitokomon (水戸黄門)) ate the ramen in 1697 for the first time in Japan or the first ramen was that Keitaimen noodles (経帯麺) served in 1488 was written in Biryueken Diary (蔭涼軒日録). Noodle soup dishes were spread out in Japan because Nanking noodles (南京そば) was served in various China Towns, Japan. In Hakodate with a China Town, Yowaken (養和軒) served the Nanking noodles in 1884. In Sapporo, it is a root of Sapporo Ramen that a noodle soup dish was cooked by Mr. Wang Wen Zai (王 文彩), a chief chef of Takeya Shokudo (竹家食堂), in 1922. Salt Broth Ramen
Their business time starts at 09:30. But I visited here before 10 minutes the business started, and the ramen restaurant was already opened. Preceding customers sat at their seats, so the owner thought to sorry probably that he kept visitors waiting, and might open the ramen restaurant. He is a kind man. They serve only 2 types of ramen, Salt Broth Ramen (塩ラーメン) and Soy Sauce Broth Ramen (醬油ラーメン). Customers will choose a portion of noodles. I sat a counter seat, and ordered the Salt Broth Ramen. The price was JPY 600.
About 10 minutes later, the Salt Broth Ramen was served. Roasted pork fillets, green onions, bamboo shoots and a dried laver were on noodles. The soup made from bonito soup stock was clear and was very beautiful. It was light taste, but it had Umami. In addition, it was not too salty. I guessed that the soup stock of vegetables might be tasty. This was my favorite taste. The noodles made by Mihara Noodles-making Factory (三原製麺) went well with the soup. This thinness was a characteristic of the Kushiro Ramen. Customers entered the ramen restraunt one after another, too, and it was about full at 09:40. The ramen restaurant was popular after all.
