[Koganeyu Onsen in Sapporo] Day Trip Bath and Sulfur Spring Can Be Enjoyed

Koganeyu Onsen

Koganeyu Onsen (小金湯温泉) is a hot spring place in the southwestern part of Sapporo city, and is only a little closer the center of the Sapporo than Jozankei (定山渓). 2 hot spring accommodations, Matsu-no-Yu (まつの湯) and Yumoto Koganeyu (湯元 小金湯), are built along Toyohira River (豊平川), and have been popular with people for cure since a long time ago. There are Mt. Hakkenzan (八剣山), North Safari Adventure (ノースサファリアドベンチャー), Koganeyu Sakura-no-Mori (小金湯さくらの森) and Sapporo Ainu Culture Promotion Center (札幌市アイヌ文化交流センター) around here. A convenience store is not built around here. Cherry blossoms can be enjoyed at the Koganeyu Sakura-no-Mori, Fall foliage can be enjoyed in the Mt. Hakkenzan, and snow can be enjoyed along the Toyohira River in a winter.

It is the origin of the Koganeyu Onsen that a settler from Kumamoto found a hot spring gushing place at the foot of Katsura tree in 1883, after that, Mr. Dazaemon Yoshikawa (吉川太左ヱ門) built an onsen hut in 1887. The Katsura tree is called "Katsura Fudo", and grows at the Yumoto Koganeyu at present. By the way, a nonstop bus, Yuttari Liner (直通バス湯ったりライナー), runs between New Chitose Airport and Koganeyu Onsen, and a nonstop bus, Kappa Liner (かっぱライナー号), runs between the central part of Sapporo and Koganeyu Onsen, so those would be very convenient.

    SAPPORO

Sapporo (札幌) that about 1,960,000 people live is the largest city in Hokkaido. Although there are various theories, its origin of the name is "Dry Big River (乾いた大きな川)" in Ainu language. A population of the Sapporo is the 4th largest city after Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya in japan, and the population accounts for 36 % of Hokkaido's population! So the Sapporo has been flourished as the center of the Hokkaido. The area of the Sapporo is 1,121.26 km2, and is about as big as Hong Kong, and is the 7th largest city in the Hokkaido. The Sapporo is also famous as a tourist city, and about 15 million people come. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 25 degrees in a summer, but it is easy to live without moisture. I always feel a little cool. It is cold that temperature falls to nearly -10 degrees in a winter, and amount of snowfall sometimes has more than 1 m. Read More

There are 1 open-air bath and 2 indoor baths at a public bathhouse. The bathhouses for men or women are replaced every day. The tiled bathhouse is not so large, but the sunny bathhouse with large windows is feeling good. The indoor baths are the size that about 8 people can take a bath, and use heated hot springs. I felt that water temperature of the baths were different, but it did not make a great difference. The bathhouse has a lot of steam. By the way, the hot springs looked like more colorless and clear than the hot springs of open-air bath.

The open-air bath is the size that about 8 people can take a bath, and uses heated hot springs. Because the open-air bath opens out toward the Toyohira River, a view is splendid. I felt that a scenery looked like a black-and-white drawing. A sense of openness can be enjoyed. Fresh green can be enjoyed in a summer, Fall foliage can be enjoyed in an autumn, and snow can be enjoyed in a winter. The hot springs had smooth and slippery touch. I felt that the open-air bath was stronger smooth and slippery touch than the indoor baths.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
