Kamoiwa Onsen is a hot-spring place in Rumoi city facing the Sea of Japan located in the northwestern part of Asahikawa city, and is only hot spring place in Rumoi district, and is a little far away from the center of the Rumoi. A building is built in a mountain. There are Kamoiwa Multi-Purpose Park (神居岩総合公園), Kamoiwayama Park Golf Course (神居岩山パークゴルフ場) and Kamoiwa Multi-Purpose Park Campsite (神居岩総合公園キャンプ場) near the Kamoiwa Onsen. Except it, Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built.
Ancient Ainu people called this land "Kamuitoburi (カムイトムブリ)", and it means god's spring in Ainu language. When they took a bath at the spring, Strange to say, their wounds or disease were healed by the power of the god, so it was said that they placed an altar to thank to the god. Mr. Toyosuke Akamatsu (赤松豊祐) succeeded in drilling hot spring in 1957, and a lot of visitors for cure come here as only one hot-spring place in the Rumoi district.
List of Day Trip Onsen
The visitors can take a day trip bath only at Hotel Kamoiwa (ホテル神居岩).
Hotel Kamoiwa (ホテル神居岩) is a small-sized long-established onsen ryokan surrounded by a forest, and has been established since in 1957, and is well-known for owning 3 types of hot springs. The appearance is like a city hotel. A restraunt is at a building, too, and visitors for day trip bath use it only in Saturdays, Sundays, and National holidays. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 500. A staying is possible, too.
They have 2 buildings, Main Building and New Building, and a large public bathhouse is on the 1st floor of the Main Building. There are 1 indoor bath, 1 medicated bath, 1 sleeping bath, 1 cascading bath, 1 cold bath and 1 sauna at the bathhouse. There is not an open-air bath outside building, but 3 outstanding stones are installed. Gods may dwell the stones.
Hotel Kamoiwa has 3 types of hot spring sources, and the first one is (1)strong sodium chloride spring containing Iodo, and is opaque and light yellow and has salty taste and no smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 23.81 g/kg. The hot springs have rich ingredients. Iodide ion content is 14.6 mg/kg. The Iodo has bactericidal effects with high-power used for gargles such as a tincture of iodin, and because it has the bactericidal effects, it seems to make skin of the bathers beautiful. In Hokaido, Bansei Onsen is famous, but the Kamoiwa Onsen has bigger Iodide ion content than the Bansei Onsen. The second is (2)simple hot spring, and is clear and colorless and has neither taste nor smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.249 g/kg. The last is (3)simple sulfur cold spring, and is clear and whitish and has no taste and a little sulfur smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.228 g/kg. Unfortunately, all the hot springs are not drinkable.
The large indoor bath is the size that about 8 people can take a bath, and uses heated (3)simple sulfur cold spring. The hot springs look light emerald green becauge of influence of the sulfur. A whirlpool bath is built, too, but it does not work.
The sleeping bath seats 4 people, and uses heated (1)strong sodium chloride cold spring with water. The hot springs look light brown, and it is so good. I guess that it is influence of Iodine ion.
The cascading bath seats 2 people, and may use (2)simple hot spring. The water pressure is comfortable.
The medicated bath is called Kogenyakuto (皇源薬湯), and is the size that about 3 people can take a bath, and is arranged 8 kinds of medicinal herbs that come down Chinese Imperial Palace over many years. The hot water seems to have an effect for Heart disease, Liver disease, Disturbance of motility, Rheumatism and Neuralgia.
Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathhouse. A restroom, a paid hair dryer and a cold drinkig water facility are installed at a dressing room.
