[Kaitorima Onsen in Setana] Day Trip Bath and Abalone Can Be Enjoyed at Awabisan-so
Kaitorima Onsen
Kaitorima Onsen (貝取澗温泉) is a hot spring hotel in Taisei ward, Setana town located in the northwestern direction of Hakodate city. Visitors turn along Oiwake Soran Line (National Route 229), and go straight for around 600 m along kaitorima River, and only Awabisan-so (あわび山荘) is built adjacent to Taisei Campsite (大成野営場), and campers pay camp fee at the Awabisan-so. Unfortunately, restraunts, cafes, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built around there. There are Otayama Shrine (太田山神社), Parent and Child Bears Shaped Rocks (親子熊岩) and Usubetsu Onsen (臼別温泉) near here. Kaitorima means "Place between Rocks" in Ainu language. I suppose that there are not rocks only at the mouth of the Kaitomari River in rocky cliff seashore. The Kaitorima Onsen passed a rigorous screening in 1976, and has been appointed by Minister for the Environment, and is one of 15 nation insurance hot spring resorts in Hokkaido.

Otayama Shrine
Otayama Shrine (太田山神社) is in Setana town located in the northwestern direction of Hakodate city. This is the shrine in connection with Mr. Enku (円空), famous sculptor of Buddhist images, and it is famous as the most dangerous shrine in Japan. Because there are a large shrine gate and a parking space along Hokkaido Route 740, I think that it is easy to find it. There are Ota Shrine (太田神社) and Enku Buddhist Temple (円空仏堂) near the large shrine gate, and there are a restroom and a parking lot besides Enku Buddhist Temple. By the way, a enshrined deity is Sarutahiko-no-mikoto (猿田彦命). Admission free. The parking lot is free of charge. Read More

List of Day Trip Onsen
Visitors can take a day trip bath at the Awabisan-so.
Awabisan-so
Awabisan-so is a small-sized onsen ryokan founded in 1978, and is famous for enjoying an abalone dish. A building is old, but it has a cleanliness because it is cleaned well. The hot spring facility is popular with local people. An entrance fee to the bath facility is JPY 400. Restraunt Awabisan-so Shokudo (あわび山荘食堂) is at the building, too, and visitors for day trip bath can use the restraunt. A tourist that happened to be at Niseko Gosiki Onsen Ryokan from Kyoto told me that he favorited the Awabisan-so, so I had been looking forward to taking a bath. .

There are 1 outdoor bath, 1 indoor bath and 1 sauna at a large public bathhouse. The sunny bathhouse with large windows is feeling good. A wall partition is a remnant of an old tradition that was mixed bathing. The indoor bath is the size that about 20 peopel can take a bath, and the bathers can bath comfortably, and pretty hot springs make the bathers get up. Fresh free flowing hot springs powerfully flow towards an outlet. Hot spring ingredients have petrified on the surface of rock bathtub, and have grew a nice shape naturally.

The outdoor bath surrounded by rocks is the size that about 6 people can take a bath. A gazebo is built on the outdoor bath. Actually, Kaitorima River (貝取間川) flows in fron of bather's eyes, but the river can not be seen with cutting off a front view by trees unfortunately. The outdoor bath has a faucet for cold water, so it is allowed to add the water for lowering the water temperature.

The hot springs are sodium chloride carbonated spring, and are opaque and reddish brown and have salty taste and slightly metallic smell. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 2.154 g/kg. Because the public health center does not admit it, Unfortunately, the hot springs are not drinkable. Red flowers of sulphur dance in the hot springs, so those flowers of sulphur seem to deposit on the bottom of the indoor bath, and hot spring ingredients sticked my foots. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathhouse. A free hair dryer is insalled at a dressing room, but there is not a restroom. You should get a wash beforehand at the restroom along a corridor.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
