[Jukai Onsen in Mukawa] Day Trip Bath Can Be Enjoyed at Jukai Onsen Hakua in Hobetsu

Jukai Onsen

Jukai Onsen (樹海温泉) is a hot spring place in Hobetsu, Mukawa town located in the southeastern direction of Sapporo city. Jukai Onsen Hakua (樹海温泉はくあ) is built near Sekisho Juaki National Route (National Route 274). The distance is around 15 km away from the center of the Hobetsu, and restraunts, cafes and convenience stores are not built around here. Hobetsu Dam (穂別ダム) and Hobetsu Campsite (穂別キャンプ場) are relatively near here. Hobetsu is well-known for a rare complete skeleton of Hadrosauridae Dinosaur Fossil in late Cretaceous period in the world, and Hakua is named after hot springs that pump up from the stratum of the Cretaceous. The Hakua means the Cretaceous in English. By the way, the Mukawa is famous for Shishamo Smelt. Speaking of tasty restaurants in the Mukawa, Ono Shoten (大野商店), Tosenbo (灯泉房), Taiho Sushi (大豊寿司), Kiyomoto (きよもと) and Kano Sushi (叶寿司) are popular in particular. I ate Shishamo Smelt Sushi at the Ono Shoten. It was so tasty.

Shishamo Smelt Sushi of Ono Shoten

Kanedai Ono Shoten (カネダイ大野商店) is a shishamo smelt processing store in Mukawa town located in the southeastern direction of Tomakomai city and was founded in 1923. It is famous for eating a shishamo smelt not capelin. My friend recommended me to eat the shishamo smelt sushi (ししゃも寿司) at this time, and I visited here. Read More

They have 2 types of public bathhouses, Western-style bathhouse and Japanese-style bathhouse, and the bathhouses for men or women are replaced sometimes. I took a bath at the Western-style bathhouse. There are 1 open-air bath and 1 indoor bath at the public bathhouse. The public bathhouse is not large. The indoor bath is the size that about 10 people can take a bath, and the open-air bath is the size that about 4 people take a bath, and both baths use heated hot springs with adding water. The open-air bath faces a mountain, but is surrounded by blind fencess, so a view is not good.
