April 23rd, 2014
Ryuho (龍鳳) is a popular chinese restaurant in Otaru city and was founded in 1977. A large serving of hong kong style chow mein (あんかけ焼きそば) is famous. Speaking of the hong kong style chow mein in Otaru, it is said that Mr. Koji Kondo (近藤庫司) who acted as an executive chef at Otaru center hotel (小樽中央ホテル) spreaded over the hong kong style chow mein. A little less than 100 restaurants adopted the taste on a menu. At most restaurant in Otaru city, the hong kong style chow mein is placed on the menu. It is great influence!
An owner trained cooking for a chef at Hotel New Otani Sapporo (ニューオータニ札幌). Because his father has taken charge of Daimaru ramen (大丸ラーメン), he runs horyu with his mother. The restraunt has an atomosphere such as a typical good old chinese restaurant, and there are some tables and family customers seem to enjoy. I visited here around 11:00 on weekdays. It was approximately full and they seemed to have very good business.
I sat at the table and ordered the famous hong kong style chow mein at once. The price was JPY 800. It seems to be used 2 ball of noodles. It is a large serving of the hong kong style chow mein. A platter was a little less than 40 cm in diameter, but I finished eating it without delay. It was a piping dish and was tasty!
