[Honbetsu Onsen] Day Trip Onsen and Garden Can Be Enjoyed at Honbetsu Onsen Grand Hotel
Honbetsu Onsen (本別温泉) is a hot spring place in Honbetsu town located in the northeastern direction of Obihiro city. Honbetsu Onsen Grand Hotel (本別温泉グランドホテル) is built along Hokkaido Road 770. The distance is around 2 km away from the center of the Honbetsu, and restraunts, cafes, souvenir shops and convenience stores are not built. Speaking of tasty restraunts in the Honbetsu, Ukifune (浮舟) and Buckwheat Noodles Restaurant Tajima (蕎麦屋のたじま) are popular in particular. I ate foods at the Ukifune, and it were tasty.
Pork Steak of Ukifune
Ukifune (浮舟) is a popular restraunt in Honbetsu town located in the northeast direction of Obihiro city. This restaurant is famous for large pork steak and placing in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. Ms. Kon recommended this restraunt, so I visited here. Lunchtime is from 11:30 to 14:00 and dinnertime is from 17:00 to 19:00. It is a regular closing day on Sunday. Article is here
List of Day Trip Onsen
The visitors can take a day trip bath only at the Honbetsu Onsen Grand Hotel.
[Shut Down] Honbetsu Onsen Grand Hotel
Honbetsu Onsen Grand Hotel is a small-sized onsen ryokan founded in 1976. A garden is on the site, too. There are an entrance for hotel guests and an entrance for day trip visitors. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 500. Restraunt “Kazokutei” (レストラン「家族亭」) and a shop are at the building, too, and visitors for day trip bath can use the restraunt. A staying is possible, too. A public bathhouse was renewed in 2006. Unfortunately, they have been closed a business since 2020.
There are 1 outdoor bath, 3 outdoor tub baths and 2 indoor baths at the bathhouse. The sunny tiled bathhouse with large windows is feeling good. I took a bath at the bathhouse for men. The bathhouse for women is smaller than the bathhouse for men. The indoor bath along the windows is the size that about 10 people can take a bath, and uses heated free flowing hot springs, and is hotter than the small indoor bath. The indoor bath beside walls is the size that about 4 people can take a bath, and uses natural free flowing hot springs, and is suitable for taking a long bath.
At the outside, the outdoor bath and the outdoor tub baths are set at a gazebo. The outdoor bath surrounded by rocks is the size that about 6 people can take a bath, and the outdoor tub bath seats 1 person, and the baths use heated hot springs. I let the hot springs overflowed from the baths whenever I took a bath at the outdoor tub baths, and it was very comfortable! A sense of openness can not be felt because of a roof. But bathers can take a bath while looking at the garden. The garden is lit up in the evening.
The hot springs are simple hot spring, and are clear and colorless and have neither taste nor smell, and have slightly smooth and slippery touch. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 0.957 g/kg. The hot springs seem to be drinkable, too, but I can not find a drinking hot spring facility. Shampoos and body soaps are provided at the bathhouse. A restroom and free hair dryers are installed at a dressing room.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
