Hokkaido occupies approximately 35 % of buckwheat production of Japan. It is cool in a summer and marked temperature swings adapt to good buckwheat. Horokanai (幌加内), Fukagawa (深川) and Otoineppu (音威子府) are 3 major places of production. Horokanai buckwheat noodles (幌加内そば) that are famous for high quality buckwheat noodles, Otoineppu buckwheat noodles (音威子府そば) that are famous for black buckwheat noodles and Shintoku buckwheat noodles (新得そば) are known. Dateokina

Dateokina (伊達翁) is a famous buckwheat noodles restraunt in Rogetsu-cho, Date city. This restraunt is one of buckwheat noodles restraunts that Mr. Kunihiro Takahashi (高橋邦弘), very famous soba chef, runs the Okina-Daruma group (翁達磨グループ), and Mr. Hirofumi Takenaka (竹中広文) became independent in 2000. They garnered one star in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. This restraunt is adjacent to a convenience store “Seicomart (セイコーマート)” along the National Route 37 and a signboard of Seicomart is a mark. Because Dateokina seemed to be crowded very much at lunchtime, I visited here around 14:00 on weekdays. There were 2 groups of visitors at the reastraunt. That was what I thought. The restaurant was shiny and all interior decoration was made of woods. Seats with a space spacious had a nice atmosphere. All seats are tables, so family customers seem to enjoy, too. Tamagawaan

Tamagawaan (玉川庵) is a famous buckwheat noodles restraunt in Tottori, Kushiro city and is known for making oyster buckwheat noodles (牡蠣そば) for the first time, and they garnered one star in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. Originally, an owner run a buckwheat noodles restraunt in Akkeshi that is famous for the oyster culture and would buy the oyster field in a different field accidentally. For 3 years, he seemed to discover a method to cook the oyster that had a muddy odor tasty with the buckwheat noodles. They moved to Kushiro, and approximately 40 years passed. Teuchisoba Ito (手打ちそば伊とう) is a famous buckwheat noodles restaurant in Nakashibetsu town located in the northwest part of Nemuro city and was founded in 2008. They garnered one star in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition and became more popular. Article is here

Mansaku (まん作) is a famous buckwheat noodles restraunt in Kamifurano town located in the south part of Asahikawa city. There is a building near the Miharashidai park (見晴台公園). It was founded in 2004. Hachiemon

Hachiemon (八右ヱ門) is a popular buckwheat noodles restraunt in Horokanai town located in the northwest part of Asahikawa city. There is a building near Horokanai town office. Horokanai is famous as a major production area of the highest-grade buckwheat flour. The buckwheat noodles using buckwheat flour produced in Horokanai can be eaten. They got the Bib Gourmand in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. I visited the Hachiemon several times before, but the business was closed around 13:00 and I was not able to enter it. It is a popular after all. However, it opened a business and I visited here when I happened to pass around 13:30 on weekdays. Article is here

Soba-Kura Yamagen

Speaking of Esashi, buckwheat noodles with herring (ニシンそば) is famous. I visited Sobakura Yamagen (そば蔵やまげん) to eat the buckwheat noodles with the herring. It was recommended from my friend. This restaurant is famous for getting the Bib Gourmand in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. Then I have to visit it. Article is here

Yomogi

Yomogi (蓬) is a popular buckwheat noodles restraunt in Higashikagura town located in the southeast part of Asahikawa city. An owner moved from sapporo city to Higashikagura town after retiring a heavy machinery manufacturer, and it was founded in 2005 because it was his hobby to cook the buckwheat noodles. The life is amazing because they got the Bib Gourmand in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. Hand-made Buckwheat Noodles Ichimura (手打蕎麦いちむら) is a famous buckwheat noodles restraunt in Kutchan town located in the northwest part of Sapporo city and was founded in 2002. Karamatsuen (からまつ園) is a famous buckwheat noodles restaurant in Naie town located in the northwest part of Sapporo city. There is a building facing the national route 12 with the longest straight line road in Japan between Sunagawa city and Iwamizawa city. It was founded in 1969. Soba-no-Sato Bibairo

Soba-no-Sato Bibairo (蕎麦の里びばいろ) is a popular buckwheat noodles restraunt in Memuro town in the west of Obihiro city. A solitarily restraunt is built in fields, and visitors can experience Tokachi. Soba-no-Sato Bibairo was once called “Visionary Buckwheat Noodles Restraunt (幻のそば店)” by buckwheat noodles evangelist, but it closed a business, and a current owner took over the restraunt and reopened a business in 2005, so got the Bib Gourmand in MICHELIN GUIDE Hokkaido 2012 Special Edition. There are other buckwheat noodles restaurants with a good reputation in Hokkaido. For example Yubari local speciality curried buckwheat noodles soup and buckwheat noodles using Sorachi local speciality roasted chicken giblets. Tourists can enjoy many kinds of the buckwheat noodles.

Genkiya

Sobadokoro Genkiya (そば処元気屋) is a buckwheat noodles restaurant in Kitahiyama, Setana town. There is a building at a heart of fields. The building is a prefab house, but it has an atmosphere that seems to come across tasty dishes. Customers take off shoes at an entrance and enter the restraunt. I visited here around 14:00 on weekdays, and I sat at a table because there were only 2 groups of visitors. The restraunt was not so large. But there are some tables, so family customers seem to enjoy. Article is here

Marukatsu

Marukatsu (まるかつ) is a popular buckwheat noodles restraunt in Takikawa city. There is a building near Takikawa city hall. I was surprised at prices of almost menus that were JPY 300, In addtion, I was surprised at a numerousness of visitors more. 3 people lined up when I visited here around 11:30 on Sunday. Because I did not expect it, I decided to come again. Meanwhile, visitors came over one after another. The reasonable price and average quality will take the local people captive. Article is here

Yoshinoya

Yoshinoya (吉野家) is a long-established buckwheat noodles restraunt in Yubari city located in the eastern part of Sapporo city and was founded in 1928. Speaking of Yoshinoya, Yoshinoya is famous for a beef rice bowl (牛丼), too, but Yoshinoya in Yubari was founded before than Gyudon Yoshinoya. My friend recommended me to eat curried buckwheat noodles soup, I visited here just after opening of the buckwheat noodles restraunt. The restraunt had an atomosphere such as a typical good old buckwheat noodles restraunt. There were some tables and family customers seem to enjoy. Article is here

Tokiwaken

Tokiwaken (常盤軒) is a popular buckwheat noodles restaurant at Otoineppu station (音威子府駅) in Otoineppu. It is said to be the most tasty buckwheat noodles among the all Japan’s stations. It features black color and strong chewy noodles made by Hatakeyama noodles factory (畠山製麺). Because they have been making the noodles for 80 years, it will be tasty. A table is set at the station and visitors can eat the buckwheat noodles there or can use waiting chairs of station. In addition, there is the Tenpoku Line Reference Library (天北線資料室) at the station, too, and the visit is possible. Article is here

Kirin

Kirin (希林) is a popular buckwheat noodles restaurant in Iwamizawa city. Iwamizawa city is famous for a barbecued chicken (焼き鳥) and roasted chicken giblets (もつ焼き). There are some restaurants that visitors can eat those. Therefore I visited here to eat buckwheat noodles with the roasted chicken giblets (もつそば). It is usually a business start at 11:00. Soba-no-Sato Kyoan

Soba-no-Sato Kyoan (そばの里京庵) is a popular buckwheat noodles restaurant in Kaminoboribetsu-cho, Noboribetsu city. There is a solitary house near Shinnoboribetsu Onsen (新登別温泉). There are few buildings around the house, you will be surprised at the buckwheat noodles restaurant in such a place. The interior decoration has an atmosphere such as our home. I took off my shoes and entered here as if I visited my friend’s house. By the way, visitors with children who are lower than a primary schoolchild may not enter here. Izumi Shokudo (いずみ食堂) is a famous buckwheat noodles restaurant in Monbetsu, Hidaka town and was founded in 1960. I visited here around 13:00 on weekdays, but there were still a lot of customers at the restraunt. Because there were not a few seats at all, this restaurant will be considerably popular. Minatoya

Minatoya (みなとや) is a buckwheat noodles restaurant in Shintoku town. There is a building near Shintoku station. I visited here to eat Shintoku buckwheat noodles (新得そば). Marumi Shokudo

Marumi Shokudo (まるみ食堂) is a long-established restaurant in Yakumo town and was founded in 1958. A building is next to Yakumo station and they run an accommodation, too. I visited Yakumo, so I planned to eat Yakumo buckwheat noodles. However, in the first place I misunderstood about Yakumo buckwheat noodles. I thought that it was a kind of buckwheat noodles. Marumi Shokudo uses buckwheat flour produced in Horokanai. By the way, the Yakumo buckwheat noodles is a name of the restaurant. Article is here

Namiki

Namiki (なみ喜) is a popular buckwheat noodles restaurant in Kita ward, Sapporo city and is located in the north side of Hokkaido University with large site. It takes approximately 20 minutes on foot from a subway station. It may be inconvenient when visitors do not go there by a car. I heard from my friend that the chicken tempura and itasoba (鶏天と板そば) were tasty, and I visited here. Article is here
