Hokkaido Governor's Official Residence
Hokkaido Governor's Official Residence (北海道知事公館) is an apartment house for the Governor of the Hokkaido in Chuo ward, Sapporo city, and was built as a second house of Mitsui in 1936. The building has been used as the Hokkaido Governor's Official Residence since 1952. The site area is 51,623.25 m2. The building and a garden are built at the large site in the downtown of the Sapporo. Most of the site is covered with green plants, so it is called an urban oasis, and here is a secret peaceful place for Sapporo citizens, too. Admission free. A parking lot is not provided. Hokkaido Museum Of Modern Art (北海道立近代美術館) and Migishi Kotaro Museum of Art (三岸好太郎美術館) are also nearby here.

The Hokkaido Museum Of Modern Art is the largest museum of art in the Hokkaido, and the Migishi Kotaro Museum of Art is an annex of The Hokkaido Museum Of Modern Art. People say that the art is spiritual nourishment, so I somrtimes visit those to supply the spiritual nourishment. At the Hokkaido Museum Of Modern Art, large art exhibitions such as works rented by Bridgestone Museum of Art (ブリジストン美術館) are held, and art exhibitions featuring a artist, too. I encountered good works of Mr. Koji Kinutani (絹谷幸二) and Mr. Katumi Fukai (深井克美). Especially, the works of the Mr. Katumi Fukai looked like a dark fantasy worldview of BERSERK (ベルセルク), a popular comic, and I found an old genre. I also feel a knife-edge as if his works were works of Mr. Tetsuya Ishida (石田徹也).

SAPPORO
Sapporo (札幌) that about 1,960,000 people live is the largest city in Hokkaido. Although there are various theories, its origin of the name is "Dry Big River (乾いた大きな川)" in Ainu language. A population of the Sapporo is the 4th largest city after Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya in japan, and the population accounts for 36 % of Hokkaido's population! So the Sapporo has been flourished as the center of the Hokkaido. The area of the Sapporo is 1,121.26 km2, and is about as big as Hong Kong, and is the 7th largest city in the Hokkaido. The Sapporo is also famous as a tourist city, and about 15 million people come. As for a climate, it is hot that temperature rises to nearly 25 degrees in a summer, but it is easy to live without moisture. I always feel a little cool. It is cold that temperature falls to nearly -10 degrees in a winter, and amount of snowfall sometimes has more than 1 m. Read More

Garden
In the grounds of 51,623.25 m2, about 2,400 trees such as Japanese Yew, Japanese Spruce, Japanese Maple and Painted Maple are planted, and a stream flows. The grounds are basically covered with green grass, so here is comfortable. Cherry blossoms and Ume blossoms in a spring, green leaves in a summer and fall foliage in an autumn can be enjoyed. Ishinki (意心帰), a stone sculpture, made by Mr. Kan Yasuda (安田侃), a famous sculptor, and Sakimori (サキモリ), sculptures like human, made by Mr. Masayuki Nagare (流政之), a famous sculptor, are built, and visitors can savor a good atmosphere. It takes about 60 minutes to look around on foot. Open periodo is from late April to late November.

Inside of Hokkaido Governor's Official Residence
The Hokkaido Governor's Official Residence is a wooden two-story building using a technique of Northern European wooden building called half timber. Red wooden decorations set off a green gable roof and white walls, so I suppose that it would be the considerably modern building in those days. visitors can enter for free. But not all rooms can be entered. The building is not large, so I think that it takes about 30 minutes to look around on foot.

An entrance hall, a drawing room, a dining room and a restroom are on the 1st floor. Prince Hotel used to wait at a table Once.

A conference room, a drawing room and a bedroom are on the 2nd floor. Nyokan Button (女官ボタン) and Toneri Button (内舎人ボタン) are famous. Those are unfamiliar, so I wonder if what happens if the button are pressed.

By the way, Club Tourism (クラブツーリズム), a Japanese tour travel agency, provides various types of tours such as day trip tours or ordinary tours. In the case of bus tours, tourists do not drive their cars themselves, so they can savor alcohol. Choosen tourist attractions are national parks such as Rishiri and Rebun, Shiretoko, and popular tourist places such as Furano and Biei, and some activities such as hiking and fruit picking are also enjoyed depending on seasons. If you are interested in tour trips, you should visit the club tourism's website for details.
