List of Day Trip Onsen
Tourists can take a day trip bath at Fukiage Roten-no-Yu (吹上温泉露天の湯) and Fukiage Onsen Rest Center Hakugin-so (吹上温泉保養センター 白銀荘).
Fukiage Roten-no-Yu is mixed bathing open-air baths surrounded by forests. Mr. Sutekichi Marutani discovered the hot springs in 1897. After that, a hot-spring inn was built by Mr. Saburo Nakagawa in 1932. But it was shutted down 1943, and only bathtubs were left. Because Mt. Tokachidake (十勝岳) became active in 1987, a temperature of the hot springs rose, and became the just right water temperature suitable for bathing, so it has became a popular secret onsen for enjoying free flowing hot springs that gush out naturally. Fukiage Ikoi Open Park (吹上いこいの広場) was maintained in 1991, so anyone has been easy to come. Furthermore, it was used as a shooting place of the television drama "From the north country (北の国から)", Mr. Kuniei Tanaka, a famous actor, and Ms. Rie Miyazawa, a famous sctress, took a bath, so a lot of tourists has came. In addition, it seems to be popular for oversea people to visit in a winter.
It takes approximately 5 minutes on foot from a parking lot to the open-air baths. There are 2 baths surrounded by rocks on a cliff along a mountain stream. A stairway is built on the cliff, too. The large open-air bath is the size that about 10 people can take a bath. Hot springs that look turquoise blueleave an impression. A hose of spring water is installed, and the water temperature can be adjusted. It is recommended to take a bath in wearing swimsuits or with bath towel covering body, but a lot of Japanese men take a bath withhout wearing anything.
The small open-air bath is the size that about 2 people can take a bath, and very hot springs can be enjoyed. The hot springs are very hot in a winter, so bathers take snow in the hot springs with a shovel to adjust the water temperature. Local volunteers always keep the bath clean. A photography seems to be prohibited at the open-air baths, so you should not take a photo if another bathers take a bath. But in a summer, except the bathers, a lot of tourists visit here, so the bathers may feel ashamed of themselves.
The hot springs are acidic calcium and sodium sulfate chloride spring, and are clear and colorless and have sour taste and no smell. Unfortunately, the hot springs are not got drinkable permission by a health center. But plastic cups were provided, it was quite good sourness when I drank it. The hot springs are effective for Chronic cholecystitis, Cholelithiasis, Chronic constipation, Obesity disease, Diabetes and Gout. The sum total of the hot spring ingredients are 1.526 g/kg. The meta-silicic acid content is 286.3 mg/kg. It is said that the hot springs including the meta-silicic acid with over 200 mg/kg is effective for beautiful skin.
Fukiage Roten-no-Yu is crowded with the bathers in national holidays. Best visit time is early morning. When I visited here at 6 o'clock, there is nobody. An entrance fee to the bath facility and the parking lot are free of charge. There are restrooms on the parking lot. A simplified dressing room is installed beside the large open-air bath. Because an illumination is not installed, the bathers can take a bath in a pitch-dark night while enjoying a starlit sky. But, please be careful about cliffs.

Fukiage Onsen Rest Center Hakugin-so
Fukiage Onsen Rest Center Hakugin-so is an onsen accommodation repaired from a mountain hut named "Hut Hakugin-so" built in 1933 in 1997, and is famous for open-air baths with a sense of openness. In a winter, those are popular for enjoying snow, too. An entrance fee to a bath facility is JPY 700. A staying without meals is possible, too, and it is used for mountain climbers. A building is adjacent to a camping ground, and a camping fee is JPY 500.
Large public bathhouses for men or women are on the 1st floor, and a resting room is on the 2nd floor. The bathhouse with a high ceiling has wooden walls, and the warmth of the trees are felt. There are 1 cypress bath, 1 bath surrounded by rocks, 1 sleeping bath, 1 cascading bath, 1 cold bath and 1 sauna at the bathhouse, and the sunny bathhouse is feeling good. Hot springs look brown, so those may be oxidized to air.
The cypress bath is the size that about 10 people can take a bath, and the bath surrounded by rocks is the size that about 8 people can take a bath. Each baths are adjacent. A drinking hot spring facility made of rocks is built in front of the cypress bath. I felt slightly sour when I drank it. The drinking hot spring is effective for Chronic cholecystitis, Cholelithiasis, Chronic constipation, Obesity disease, Diabetes and Gout. The sleeping bath and the cascading bath seat 2 people.
There are 4 open-air baths named Pokapoka-no-Yu (ぽかぽかの湯), Katsuryoku-no-Yu (活力の湯), Nonbiri-no-Yu (のんびりの湯) and Kutsurogi-no-Yu (くつろぎの湯) at the outside of the bathhouse, and a gazebo is built to take a rest. Above all, the open-air baths have a sense of openness very much. The bathhouse for men may be seen from a parking lot. In addition, Starry sky is beautiful at night. The Popoka-no-Yu is the size that about 2 people can take a bath, and the Katsuryoku-no-Yu is the size that about 3 poeple can take a bath, and the Nonbiri-no-Yu is the size that about 5 people can take a bath, and the Kutsurogi-no-Yu is the size that about 5 people can take a bath, and all the open-air baths are not so large. Large rocks are good feeling. The water temperature are different in the open-air baths, please enjoy your favorite open-air bath.
In addition, 4 mixed bathing open-air baths are provided, too. Men and women can go in and out from dressing rooms for men or women. But bathers must take a bath in wearing their swimsuits. For the person that does not bring the swimsuit, the swimsuit is rented for JPY 300. There are a gazebo and 4 mixed bathing open-air baths named Fureai-no-Yu (ふれあいの湯), Asobi-no-Yu (あそびの湯), Nagame-no-Yu (ながめの湯) and Asobi-no-Yu (あそびの湯). For some reason, same names are provided. The water temperature are different in the open-air baths, please enjoy your favorite open-air bath.
The Asobi-no-Yu near an entrance is the size that about 10 people can take a bath. The largest Fureai-no-Yu is the size that about 30 people can take a bath, and its depth is 1 m. The open-air bath is like a pool rather than a standing bath. The Asobi-no-Yu at the end has a slide made of a stone. I played like a child, and had a lot of fun. I think that a family can enjoy it all together. The Nagame-no-Yu is the size that about 4 people can take a bath. I think that it is named after a view. But I did not realized it because of bad weather when I visited here.

The sum total of hot spring ingredients are (1)1.459 g/kg and (2)1.381 g/kg. The meta-silicic acid contents are (1)267.2 mg/kg and (2)279.4 mg/kg.
