The Fried Squid Leg Rice Bowl is a bowl with rice (どんぶり * Donburi) topped with the fried squid legs and sliced green onions. Some restraunts serve it in Asahikawa city, but each restraunts cook it in their own ways, so it is said that each dishes are different. Hana-chan's Fried Squid Leg Rice Bowl was covered on Popular Japanese TV program "Himitsu-no-Kenmin Show (秘密のケンミンSHOW)", so a lot of visitors come. The shop has an atomosphere such as a typical good old noodle stand, and a lot of comics are lined on bookshelves, so I guess that local people come to relax themselves. The shop is not large, but it is cozy. Seats are counter seats, so I suppose that family customers and large number of people can hardly enjoy meals in a busy time.

Fried Squid Leg Rice Bowl

I visited here around 16:00 on a weekday. * Their business hour is only lunchtime at present. No one was at the shop. I sat at a counter seat, and read a menu. I found The Fried Squid Leg Rice Bowl called the comfort food of the Asahikawa. It had 2 types of seasonings, Soy Sauce Flavour (醤油ダレ) or Salt Sauce Flavour (塩ダレ), and I ordered the Fried Squid Leg Rice Bowl with the Salt Sauce Flavour. The price was JPY 400.

After waiting for about 5 minutes, and it was served with a dish of pickled radish. The rice was covered with fried squid legs and sliced green onions, and its looks was different from Tempura Rice Bowl, a same type of dish, and I hardly ever saw the looks. I ate a mouthful immediately. It was a little oily, but it had a light taste of the salt sauce flavour, and I finished eatin it.

I asked her about this dish, and she replied "A commercial trucker, a regular customer, felt jealous of an owner's staff meal Fried Squid Legs in about 1998. Furthermore, it was born because it was advised by the trucker when he wanted to eat it with rice together. The salt sauce flavour was born because a female rider from Nagoya was not able to eat the soy sauce flavour dish in about 2008". It is a dish created through a relationship of various people.
