Cafe Marine (マリン) is a coffee shop founded in 1982 in Takikawa city located between Sapporo city and Asahikawa city, and is famous for serveing an extremely large portion of dishes. Mrs. Namie Kawanishi (川西 南美枝) is a coffee shop manager. The coffee shop is called a scared place for an extremely large portion of dishes by great eaters. Because my friend suggested that I should go to the Marine to eat a meal, I visited here. Illustrations that reminds me of the sea is drawn on the surface of a building, and the coffee shop is on the 1st floor of the building. The interior decoration has an atomosphere such as a good old coffee shop, and water creatures in a glass tank are displayed. The coffee shop is not large, and counter seats and table seats are provided, and there are some table seats, so I guess that family customers also enjoy meals.
Speaking of the Takikawa, Canola Flower Fields is famous. Takikawa Canola Flower Festival is held in late May. Hot springs gush out in the Takikawa, and a day trip onsen can be enjoyed in Ebeotsu Onsen and Takikawa Onsen.
Canola Flower Fields
There are about 60 canola flower fields in Takikawa city. Planted area changes every year, but the total area is about 150 ha. Curry and Rice with Fried Pork Cutlets
I visit here around 14:00 on a weekday. 3 groups of preceding customers had meals at the coffee shop. Their each dishes were not ordinary size at a glance. I sat at a counter seat, and asked a waitress about their recommendations. She replied "Curry and Rice with Fried Pork Cutlets (カツカレー) or Tempura Rice Bowl (天丼) are usually ordered". Therefore I ordered the Curry and Rice with Fried Pork Cutlets. The price was JPY 750. Unexpectedly, it was reasonable price. They also serve parfaits, and a large portion of those are popular.
Afer waiting for about 10 minutes, the Curry and Rice with Fried Pork Cutlets was served. I guessed that the diameter of the dish was about 40 cm, and I was surprised at the size, after all. I regretted about ordering it a little, but I decided to eat it. The curry with medium-spicy was very good, and went well with rice. The taste was a good old coffee shop's flavour. Crispy deep-fried pork cutlets were tasty, and the fried pork cutlets got more tasty with adding to curry sauce! I supposed that I might eat this, and was able to eat it up if I could keep eating.
I finished eating it for about 20 minutes. A quantity of the rice is 2 go (about 300 g) at a regular portion of the rice. In the case of the regular portion, customers can bring back leftovers, but packing coast is required. In case of a large portion of the rice, a quantity of the rice is 4 go (about 600 g). But customers are not allowed to bring back leftovers, so please take notice.
